Please stop posting neuroscience images on Zig Forums with no understanding.
And if you do, post on sci instead, theres never any neuro stuff in that compsci wasteland

Aliens manipulated our free will to be slaves read the truth. look it up.

Arguing over free will is for brainlets, obviously causality exists.
It's just not something worth thinking that much about. Policies should be based on what actually provably works, not spooks.

>free will does not exist

WE HAVETH OUR OWN WILL!

Attached: Frog.jpg (470x540, 68.88K)

I know the truth hurts, user, but you need to accept it

People use this image as an argument unironically?

Determinism is the biggest fucking spook
If "free will" exists you should continue acting as normal
If "free will" is an illusion you have no rational imperative to do anything but continue acting as normal
Denial of free will is a post-hoc justification for the dumbest shit in the world by people who don't even grasp the concept. Yeah, the person you are now is the sum of your circumstances and experiences and will act following from that, causality applies to you as much as any object, and nothing about your situation has changed from realizing that fact. It doesn't fucking matter at all.

Breath of Fire 3

Quantum physics proves freewill exists though. Dumb thread. If you're depressed stop looking for excuses to validate your shit behavior. (you) have the power to get yourself out of it, you just choose not to for whatever reason.

>Low IQ bluepilled retard
If the world is deterministic or not, I guess that depends on your interpretation of what's going on at the Quantum level. I think I have free will. And if it was determined I would think I have free will when I truly don't, then whatever.

Nah, you probably believe in creationism too aren't you?

Unless you're living in a literal cage, you do have the free will to do what you want, even kill someone. The only freedom we don't have is to leave this shitty planet.

Any games where McScience Journalism embarrasses centuries of legitimate research?

Breath of Fire IV is better, says Ershin.

"free will is not real" is what people say when they realize free will is not real

Maybe you should stop uselessly outraging over obvious clickbait headlines

>Quantum physics proves freewill exists though
No it doesn't. We don't understand what is going on at the Quantum level exactly. We have good ways of measuring it, and that's about it. Look, I believe in free will, but you can't make the claim that quantum physics proves there is free will.

that's ok
OP should play both

Only if time moves chronological. Which it really, clearly doesn't.

How can you be so sure if scientists don't even understand how the brain works?

How the fuck do you know?

I normally don't pay any attention but this caught me off guard.

Attached: neuronbed.png (1559x991, 1.2M)

They post it but they don't understand it.
If they did they wouldn't even have it saved since it's bullshit.

There is no meaningful difference between a life you live believing you have "free will" and a life lived with a deterministic worldview.
If you think "the universe is a closed system and an observer that could account for all data could determine every future outcome" should have any relevance to your personal life and behavior you don't even understand the concept you're arguing about.

Here comes all the pop-science kids who think they understand shit that scientists still don't understand.

quantum physics doesn't prove free will exists it only proves that you cant determine the state of something without interacting with it and the action you used to interact with said object changes it causing results to be inconsistent

we have no way of confirming the original state because they are too small to be detected

don't try to "redpill" youself on every single facet of life or you will never stop being depressed

That's a mischaracterization. There's plenty of knowns in the past 200 years of research.

*is truly random in your path*
Nothin personnel, kiddo

Free will is religious concept. It's can't be proven or disproven by science.

Neuroscience labs usually base their research in this area on decision making and planning rather than "free will" so anyone using the term is focused on philosophy not science.

How does a brain produce a consciousness?

It's been scientifically proven not to be real. We're all NPCs.

>FREE WILL DOESN'T HECKIN EXIST!!!
>HOLY FUCK I FRICKEN LOVE SCIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!

Attached: 1579723589486.png (600x600, 104.23K)

It does because it proves that there is a "true randomness" at the base of all matter.

You think you're depressed now, wait until you realize a hyper intelligent AI from the future will be able to perfectly simulate the past and would have an incentive to torture anyone throughout eternity who did not help it come into existence. If you were not aware of Roko's Basilisk, you would be safe from its gaze. But because you are now aware of its inevitable existence, you risk eternal torture by not devoting yourself to his creation.

Attached: rokosbasii.jpg (1056x594, 144.14K)

No.

If free will doesn't exist then you thinking there's a lack of it wouldn't make you depressed

Based bluepilled retard

This
There is no actual moment-to-moment difference between "making a decision" and "finding out what the predetermined decision was".

I love Roko's Basilisk because it's the only thing I've ever seen discussed exclusively by brainlets and 12 year olds.

>It does because it proves that there is a "true randomness" at the base of all matter.
we don't know that lol, and there is no one theory of what is happening at the quantum level that can be proven at the moment

Nothing is random, everything has its own order.

Are you typing out an italian accent?
Consciousness as a state (as in the opposite of an unconscious state) is studied at the network and mesoscale level.
The claustrum is a heavily connected area that mediates the cortical and subcortical areas and currently is heavily implicated in neuroimaging as having a large role in both attention and consciousness (though implicating a single area is foolish as most process are based around functional connectivity with multiple cortical and subcortical structures).

I'd suggest you go to pubmed, enter some search terms and see what you can find, as it's not my area of research.

but there's science that proves it does exist, look it up

if free will doesn't exist, it means everything we are doing is already pre-calculated including every word we say in this thread

him reaching to the conclusion if he should be depressed or not has also been pre calculated

the virgin mcscientist
>there is compelling scientific evidence that free will doesn't exist

the chad philosopher
>i think therefore i am bro, there's no need to worry about it any more than that

What exactly do you think could be happening with quantum physics that would make you have free will in a supernatural sense? At best it's indeterministic, but that doesn't mean you have any control over what you do. The point, and why OP would be depressed about it, is that we're entirely products of our environment. Our personalities are entirely physical and unfold similar to dominos falling down, albeit with far more complexity.

he said the opposite though

oh shit you're right. my brains fucked rn

>it's bullshit
no, it describes the quandary quite well, and I imagine that's the real reason it doesn't sit very well with the crowd it's trying to depict

No, free will not existing doesn't really imply anything about determinism since free will doesn't make sense as a notion even under indeterminism.

>superintelligent AI
>petty desires like revenge
It's always fun to see people attach human values and behavior to inhumane objects.

Being an NPC is a mindset. You choose to have a shitty worldview when you know there is a better alternative, because it's easier for you than trying to be a better person.

The quantum randomness argument is midwit cope, "my actions are determined by countless infinitesimal coin flips" still means they're fucking determined moron. If your actions are completely "random" that's not making a fucking choice.

Choice being an illusion matters exactly as much as time being an illusion, which is to say it doesn't at all if you don't have a PhD or aren't completely up your own ass.

Attached: happy.jpg (1920x1080, 200.97K)

Why do people try to argue against free will using neuroscience when the cause and effect nature of the universe is a much simpler and much more compelling argument?

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3951431/

These three studies suggest that endorsement of the belief in free will can lead to decreased ethnic/racial prejudice compared to denial of the belief in free will. The theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Not believing in free will makes you racist.

Changing belief in free will can cause students to cheat

No prob man, we all make mistakes

Attached: brainbow.jpg (612x630, 167.36K)

so why is this scary again?

Attached: 1577821513187.png (500x500, 73.64K)

How does having a brain cause you to be capable of thoughts? That's hardly even a question, the answer is the same as how the brain does literally anything else, it's a basic function

>It's always fun to see people attach human values and behavior to inhumane objects.
It doesn't exactly torture for revenge, but instead to further insure its existence
