Lava mechanics in video games

What types are there and which mechanics do you like best?

>Full realism - instakill on contact and heat damage in proximity. No games i can think of
>Partial realism - instakill on contact, no heat damage in proximity. e.g. Spelunky 2
>Minimal realism - significant damage on contact, equipment degradation on contact - Dark souls 2
>Full arcade - You take heat damage on contact but can actually enter and exit lava without dying if fast enough - e.g. Quake (pic related)
>Ridiculous - Lava doesn't harm you at all. e.g. Super metroid (with appropriate upgrade)
>Completely ridiculous - Lava actually heals you. e.g. several RPGs that give over 100% fire resists, or fire absorb traits
>Bananas - You are lava - e.g. Cinder from Killer Instinct

I thought that was pizza

Full realism, but it always depends on what type of game you're making.

Full arcade cuz, you know, videogames

Full realism with an upgrade that makes it partial realism.

lava isn't even real

>Full arcade or Minimal realism
i dont want to restart just because i became autistic for 0.1 sec

Why is your lava made of pizza?

>instakill on contact and heat damage in proximity.
Subnautica.

>He doesn't eat ultra hot pizza

Are you a homo or something?

Pizza tastes better cold.

Twilight Princess kinda had heat damage + instakill on lava but then you teleport straight back onto the platform with a heart missing

metroid is heat damage in proximity with significant damage on contact and doesn't harm you with the right upgrade

Monster Hunter almost does Full realism (standing next to a lava pool damages you, even with heat resistance) but the lava is just invisible walls so you can't fall in

>realism
Assuming you go feet first you wouldn't die on contact. People float for a short while on lava from the layer of steam created by the melting skin/clothes.

Full realism has also ocarina of time, for example excessive heat inside the vulcano of the fire temple will hurt you till death if you don't have the red tunic

>Wearing a red tunic to withstand blistering heat is full realism

Gotta love you autists.

>Metroid games with upgrades in ridiculous
Yeah but without gravity suit it goes between "partial" and "minimal realism". Heat damage from proximity and significant damage from contact.

The only correct lava mechanics are:
fps:
>falling in lava gives huge damages for every second you're staying there
platformer:
>instant death

>Somewhat Realistic:
>on contact with lava, take some damage and fly really high in the air. The character shouts "MAMA! Ooh hah hoo, wahoo!" then runs around for a while with a burning ass.

kek

Any good examples of completely ridiculous?

It's a magic equip built to help the hero for that purpose, in the Zelda world ihmo is normal.

>when lava is just reskinned water and even has swimming physics

Yea its just spicy lasagna

>instakill on contact
pretty sure that's not how it works in real life

I like minecraft lava because you can use it and manipulate it to your benefit but it's still fucking dangerous

>pretty sure that's not how it works in real life
Have a few kilos of lava poured on you and try jogging it off.

Pretty sure user is just talking about touching it, kinda like Megaman spikes i guess

the metroid games have you taking proximity damage as well as very fast damage while touching it.
