If I remember right they were going to add a naginata but turned it into the switchglaive to differentiate it from the spear. Imagawa uses a naginata and his standard attacks use the switchglaive's mid-stance animations. Plus I think the Japanese name for the switchglaive translates to 'naginata scythe' or something.

I never had much of a problem with 1's DLC enemies. This time they are more visually and mechanically distinct.
