He's a very talented filmmaker with a knack for taking basically unadaptable game properties and turning them into watchable movies that turn a tidy profit. The fact he turned Resident Evil into a decent movie is noteworthy because the plot and writing in Resident Evil is TERRIBLE. He actually elevated RE into something people could take seriously, even with its excesses.

Anyway, Monster Hunter has the right idea in terms of introducing non-fans to the universe without drowning them in confusing bullshit. The new protagonists allow the audiences to become familiar with this world in bite sized chunks with a lot of the nonsense trimmed off.
