I've heard some call it the best JRPG on the 3DS and others shudder when it's brought up. I recently beat 4 and I was curious how people felt comparing the two titles.
What does Zig Forums think of SMT4:Apocalypse?
story is wannabe persona 4 but somehow written to be way more immature and awful. like honesty some of the dumbest fucking trash writing i've seen. characters are all annoying pieces of shit.
combat and fusing is fun though. dungeon design is a mixed bag. ost is pretty good
playing it now, haven't beaten it
possibly the best turn based RPG with an awful story ever
>story is wannabe persona 4
It's not even remotely close to persona 4 in style or execution. Why even pretend like you've played it?
Feels like a slight downgrade to IV
Gameplay is much much better than SMTIV but story is much much worse, it depends on which you value more
Writing is atrocious throughout, including every character aside from Dagda and the Divine Powers. Massacre route is kino but you have to wait for the very end of the game to get it. Gameplay is pretty godly however, there are only a tiny number of changes I dislike but overall it's easily the best MegaTen combat system. Great demon compendium and good challenge content that you sadly have to buy as DLCs, but the one with the Stephen bossfight is wonderful. Great game, horrible story, I wish 4 had 4As combat and systems.
shut the fuck up retard. they were trying to like fuck to emulate the friendship forever shit from p4 with the party of retards you carry around. don't even pretend.
terrible post but i can at least agree that some of the friend characters are annoying, but you can also fucking murder them
That's a damn shame, are either of the other SMT 3DS games (referring to the DS remakes) better in terms of story with decent gameplay?
terrible post but you're a retard
gameplay is good
story is shit
worth playing.
Soul Hackers is a good time, and Devil Survivor is fantastic
>they were trying to like fuck to emulate the friendship forever shit from p4
Ignoring the fact that you can quite literally give your friends the middle finger at every opportunity ultimately resulting in their death and the mass extinction of mankind every single SMT game bar 3 has had a tightly knit group of friends like that.
Also friendship wasn't everything there was to P4 and the same goes for Apoc.
>friendship forever
That's not exclusive to Persona, user.
Big fan of the UI so far, I really like the premise but I thoroughly enjoyed 4's story so it's a shame 4A doesn't live up to it. I'll definitely play through it considering 4's combat was MINT and that's the only positive thing people can seem to say about Apocalypse
What did you expect? He's probably only ever played P4 and maybe P5
Wow I meant EXCLUDING Dagda and the Divine Powers, they're great. Every other character is trash and poorly written.
Isn't Devil Survivor a tactics game? Not complaining just curious how capturing Demons, exploration, or random encounters works. I've heard nothing but good things
i thought it had the most entertaining combat in the series (the bosses were mostly gimmicky shit though unfortunately)
writing was pretty good up until they go to mikado then it starts getting really dumb
nigger are you really trying to spin this? yes, you can kill them in the very end, but you are in denial if you don't think the dev team wanted you to choose to save everyone. throughout the game you sure can try to tell everyone to fuck off only for the game to go "no they're your friends and they're coming with you". you can let them be hit in boss battles all you want, they'll still act like nothing happened and act surprised when you decide to kill them.
yeah, and obviously p4 did really well and atlus has been consistently trying to push mainline in that direction ever since.
It is, it's an isometric game, sorta like Fire Emblem. Give it a shot.
>if you don't think the dev team wanted you to choose to save everyone.
If they wanted you to save everyone they would have made it an explicit bad ending like persona 4 and 5 treating it more like a game over than a legitimate ending.
Also you haven't acknowledged that friendship is an important factor in the other games.
Look cry about it as much as you like but the similarities between it and persona are slim to none. The fact that you can't find any other connection to it beyond friends proves as much.
I've never played an SMT but I've been thinking about checking the series out. Between III and IV, which one should I play first? I've seen both recommended as good entry points.
I'd say go with 4, not much difference between the two but 4 has a better demon fusion system.
Plus it gives you something to do until the 3 remaster comes out.
I’ll second going with IV and IV:A until the III: Nocturne remaster is out.
never played SMT and started to emulate 4
I'm in the trainings dungeon and have to get my first demons, but I don't really now what to do, they ask for stuff I don't have, I always give bad answers and they kill me
is this game hard or am I just utter shit?
That makes sense. I'll go with that then. Thank you, anons.
I second this, 4 is my first game in the series and from what I've heard it's a bit easier than the other entries. It's a great entry point, plus the story is phenomenal. Hardly any handholding, unlike its spinoff persona which spends the first like 15 hours doing that
No you aren't, there's a gimmick to it. Give them one thing, deny them one thing, end the dialogue. Works about 70-80% of the time
Welcome to demon negotiation my friend.
well, might give it a try again
it left me very frustrated
Yeah that'll happen over the course of your playthrough, you just have to man up and take it.
havent played 4 yet. for me the first half of the story was good, went to shit the moment the dad died. gameplay was fun enough to stick with until the very end
