Microsoft just killed the physical video game market? wtf
Microsoft just killed the physical video game market? wtf
Good. Physical sucks. Digital only should have been mandatory last gen.
Games are already heading that way. It happened to PC gaming before anyone even realised it. Producing millions of tonnes non biodegradable shit isn't really good for any of us. I'm not an environment fag but this is just an indisputable fact.
At the end of the day fuck you. You don't own the data on that disk anyway.
Also, you can cry all you want but convenience is always going to win out.
>i want that game so i better go all the way to the store
>ooooooorrr i could just buy the game and play it in on my sofa without going anywhere
Get fucking fucked. I went to buy a physical game once and the Gamestop employees laughed at my weight. Glad they'll be out of a job now.
I love the idea of having a physical collection
They will try it again.
I'm laughing at your comment rn, what u gonna do?
Should've gone the other way.
Become a publisher of physical shit for indies and the like. LRG and SRG never should've been needed.
>You don't own the data on that disk anyway.
Except you do in the only way that matters - it can't be taken from you if the store closes down.
>ooooooorrr i could just buy the game and play it in on my sofa when it shows up at my door without going anywhere
FTFY retard.
You mean wait a day for the game to show up at your doorstep. So what you're saying is that buying the game digitally is still more convenient than buying it physically even when they bring the game to your door.
Good point.

Wow. this is way it's good to discuss things. I never would have seen things your way without this insightful discussion.
Thank you.
Shut the fuck up retard

This does not in any way, shape, or form have any impact on the physical game market. Gamestop will still make 10-100x the profit on selling you a used game than they will on the measly cut they get from digital sales. They have absolutely no incentive to push people to digital, all this does is ensure that Gamestop can survive in an increasingly-digital market, which if anything is a boon for physical. The only group this is bad for is Sony since now Gamestop will be shilling Xboxes over PlayStations hard.
so how will my system know that i bought something from gamestop?

>yank shit
Take it to reddit.

I know everybody likes to pretend PS4 games work without patches but they dont. You are still relying on an internet connection to get the patches from a server (that will not be up forever). Physical has been dead since 2010.
people who care about the environment are not fags you fucking nigger
Ever since i found about GOG, i've been buying digitally from there and storing on my games on an external HDD.
Most people order games online nowadays, user.

I just like thinking of mentally ill hoarder fags seething so this is based.
Digital is still more convenient. I don't think you realise just how important convince is in business. You can have a better product be beaten by a more convenient product. It's just human nature, we always take the path of least resistance to what we want, even if sometimes it costs more or we're worse off because of it.
Digital gaming isn't the bogeyman you think it is.
The industry pushes for digital because the profit margins are higher. There's no manufacturing cost, there's no cut for the retailers, and they eliminate used sales and trades. Let's not pretend this ever had anything to do with the fucking environment. We should have never let them getting away with selling digital copies at full price.
>20 mins to store
>Days for game to download with how huge they are now
Would still probably just wait days for it to download
Juden.
Take your meds
Xbox serial number.
>We should have never let them getting away with selling digital copies at full price
completely agree
>profit margins are higher
this is bad how? if it means developers see a bigger cut i'm fine with it.
>There's no manufacturing cost
no environmental damage either, game should be cheaper because of this I agree
>there's no cut for the retailers, and they eliminate used sales and trades
seriously, retailers are fucking over game developers for 2 decades with game resales. hurting the people that make games for you. As for retailers, they need to adapt and change or die, same as every other business.
>Let's not pretend this ever had anything to do with the fucking environment.
for you maybe. As I said, this isn't up for dispute. You're either aware of it or lying.
can someone dumb this down for me?
Gamestop was retarded and didn't offer a good digital service to begin with ,they have only themselves to blame.
video game stores are going to be extinct after next gen, arent they
fuck
gamestop selling physical used games directly led to the degradation of AAA games' quality over the last decade. I wish they'd go bankrupt sooner
well except the nintendo store :D
>Digital gaming isn't the bogeyman you think it is.
I never said anything about digital gaming being a bogeyman. Just correcting you on your misconception is all.
Basically if Gamestop sells an Xbox to a person, Gamestop will get a cut of every digital purchase that person makes on that Xbox
if you buy an xbox from gamestop and you buy digital games from that xbox, gamestop gets part of the money you paid for the game you bought digitally from xbox
I haven't physically gone to a game store since 2012. I just use eBay and Amazon now.
Actual bootlicker
They're both doing it.
oh and it almost completely destroyed the AA space. at least $MSFT is supporting that space now by acquiring developers and paying them to develop 8-20 hour games as that's what's best for gamepass content
interesting. that's one way to keep gamestop afloat
