Earthbound thread

I love Earthbound, but should i even bother with another 3? All the socialists I know who have played it praise it as an anticapitalist game and I have little interest in entertaining that shit

i may be a bit biased, as i love 2 the best, but 3 is still a solid entry. the idea that its a socialist game is kinda forced, you would have to strain to see it. its mostly a story about a bunch of bad guys coming and and fucking things up. its not that related to 2, despite the main villain being a character from it.

It's a good game you just have to swallow your apprehension during the parts where the game tries to sell you that working or incentives are inherently bad or turn you into elitist jerks.

earthbound 64 probably isnt even in a playable state.

Same, but you couldn't pay me to play 3. I tried to play it once, like a decade ago and couldn't get through the first chapter out of sheer boredom and how crap the game design was.

i think the story is the main reason why people play 3.

2 was garbage. it didnt have any emotional weight and wasnt dark at all. one of the four getting killed and replaced would have been a great step in the right direction.

Do you think Leder's monologue added anything to the game? I feel like it could have been cut and nothing about M3 would change.

3 has a few points like that. one thing i liked about the other games was the very uniqe and environmentally driven way it expressed its story via talking NPCs and such. 3 kind of falls back on the old JRPG way of doing things via textwalls.

Not really. It explained the Egg but since Nowhere Islands was untouched by man it's pointless to even point out what happened to the rest of the world.

i never understood how the world was said to end. was it just your average apocalypses or did someone powerful enough become like giygas and end everything?
