It's important to understand that you're allowed to express yourself verbally in pretty much every thinkable way (I don't think you're allowed to make a "call to arms" though) and the law and nation isn't allowed to do anything about it. As long as THEY in turn operate within the law, they are allowed to deal out social and even economic punishment for your expression as they see fit.

You're not going to get jailed for calling anyone anything, but social media has enabled a far more deadly sentencing: canceling. Your life might as WELL be over when the sanctioned lynchmob comes for you.

The irony is that canceling is actually a far more cruel form of punishment. If you go to jail/prison you are fed, you are provided a cell with a toilet and a bed and you are surrounded by peers (to some extent). Some prisons even have programs that allow you to better yourself for your rehabilitation into society if you manage to get a job.

Canceling is far worse. Every employer on Earth is now one google-search away from firing you/not hiring you, you are therefor not guaranteed a roof over your head or food. Your peers are usually quick to turn on you thanks to the social stigma and fear of being themselves canceled. There is also no "defense" against canceling, once the mob has decided you're going to be guilty, it doesn't really matter what the context was or even if you did what they claim.

Both go on your permanent record, but a canceling is usually very public and easily associated with you for life if you're unlucky.
