How come Digmon never achieved the level of success that Pokemon did?

How come Digmon never achieved the level of success that Pokemon did?

the cunny was only average

digimon was too weird and jap

Because unlike Pokemon it never really nailed down what it wanted to be.

Anime carried the franchise in the US. The games were nothing too special. You can make the argument that neither was Pokémon when directly comparing the two, but Pokémon had the advantage of being on a popular handheld with a trading and battling gimmick that really set it apart from the competition. What other RPGs at the time had a gimmick like that?

Pokemon came 1st, Digimon had no idea what it wanted to be and virtual pets aren't as popular as monster collecting RPGs

Pokémon had more Monsters and was structured.
Pikachu can only evolve into Raichu. Agumon can evolve into greymon metarumon centarumon and each of them have multiple digimons they could evolve from. The games weren't as good as pokémon too and the designs in pokémon were real monsters whereas digimons had too many humanoid / mechs.
If they made every Digimon with a family line like agumon then it'd have worked more imo

The monsters turning into humans in cosplay ruined it

Pokemon favored simple and likable designs that resemble actual animals, being make more appealing to the eye.
Digimon was just monsters evolving into weirder monsters evolving into human-like monsters. There's nothing wrong with that, but it wasn't what kids wanted.

As an anime too, Pokemon was easier to follow.
Every episode is "Ash makes another step towards the Pokemon league" which was great for kids as naturally with school and obligations kids would miss an episode here and there. Digimon's anime on the other hand follows a much more serious story which is easy to fall out of the loop if you miss a few episodes.

Something Pokemon still gets away with.

Compare this thing to Angewomon or Lucemon

But that Pokemon doesn't turn into a human, it was a Humanoid Pokemon in the first place.
A better example would be if say Charmander evolved into that. That's what Digimon evolution are like.

Bad cunny

A friend of mine wanted to show me the Digimon anime and I noticed in general the animation quality is a lot worse than the Pokemon anime.
Everyone has fucking yaoi hands

pokemon games were literally always better, more accessible and more enjoyable
pokemon has better more memorable character designs as well (this is fact)
pokemon cards were nicer
the tv show was perhaps worse, but still enjoyable and funny. easier to get into and it had more, better movies
only thing digimon really had going for it were digivices

Digimon should be powerful competition but their monsters turn into cosplayers or humanoids. It gets old fast. Also their games are less appealing, they're usually convoluted, entirely different from past games or are simply mediocre.

Now would be the perfect time for them to throw all their money into a AAA mobile game. Why have they not done this? Re:arise is ass with what looks like subpar/reused models, so don’t bother with that. Make it look like lord of heroes or take a page from genshin(it’s shit, we get it) and focus on one Digimon Rather than a whole team out at once. Go back to having the evo lines be more unique rather than anyone can evolve into anyone. We’re literally in the age where Digimon should be thriving, what the fuck are they waiting for? There isn’t a better time to jew up the gacha than right now and I’m passed about it. That’s my rant

I feel like this is a myth. Digimon is huge, just not for children. To the point where the last movie's message was "stop watching digimon and get jobs".

To add to this, use Chibi/8 bit for their overworld sprites or something, give them special moves that are like wotv small cutscenes. This would get them out of the hole they’ve been in. Then get some fresh blood and go back to actual monsters as has been said several times itt. I’m going to spend on the upcoming tcg cause I miss the series so much, but they just keep pissing the franchise away. Digimon survive is the next game coming and the artwork is all that it has going for it. Only slightly hyped for that.

haha

shit games shit monster design

They're digital beings, they're not necessarily constrained by a supposed nature. Angemon looks badass dude, if you don't like angewoman, you're just a homo

because to everyone at the time it felt like it was just trying to cash in on Pokemon's success by copying it. Was it? I don't really know as if you watch the shows they are pretty different.

>plebeians detected
You guys are stupid, the Pokemon anime is a souless marketing campaign. The Digimon anime seasons 1-3 is pure kino

> The Digimon anime seasons 1-3 is pure kino
based

>Like Digimon more.
>Tamers is favourite season.

I'm playing Next Order again right now and having a good time and I'm looking forward to the TCG in November. Never got the gripe with Megas sometimes taking on a humanoid form as I just thought it was supposed to show that peak evolution is the humanoid form.

Consistency

Literally this. Digimon games are good but weird and change style very often. They never really decided if they wanted to sell toys or games.
Also, Digimon anime was better (up to a point, fuck Frontiers), but had darker tones in contrast to childish Pokemon anime.

There also weren't many all ages JRPGs at the time, if any at all.

fucking hot

Normalfags could never handle him.

Games weren't as good.
Most people I grew up with only really knew it for the anime and the virtual pets.

>The Digimon anime seasons 1-3 is pure kino

How old are you? Have you gone back to watch any of it recently? It's really jarring, the pacing is fucked up, the characters seem very stupid/poorly written, and the voice acting is grating on the ears.

Maybe the Japanese dub is better but I grew up watching Pokemon, DBZ, and Digimon in English so I don't want to go to Japanese now.

>Digimon struggles to find a sweet spot with its audience
>Still cutting its own limbs off trying to please us
>Pokemon has obtained the perfect formula to keep players want more ages ago
>Gf could care less about making a decent game, now only wishes to continually take your money while trying even less
Would Digimon do us this dirty if the tables were turned? I feel like they couldnt be as greedy as pokemon currently is regardless
>60 new mons and two dlc packs later and we’re supposed to be hyped over old mons coming in a week.

I thought the tcg is slated to come in January? Don’t play with my emotions user

Pikachu, no? Like the starters were either cute or cool animals. Thats more appealing to girls than dinosaurs, cactus and beetles

English Digimon is the worst. I tried going back to give em a go but my god. They need to fill any silence with someone cracking a joke or line. There must always be noise or kids will not pay attention or something.

Digimon cant even compete with Pokemon
Digimon competes with Yokai Watch, Bakugan, Monsuno ect.

Digimon aren't cute enough for girls, and the Digimon concept is too complicated for most people to want to get into.
To an outsider Digimon is intimidating, whereas Pokemon is vanilla and welcoming.
Making Digimon talk was the first mistake.

The English dub of Digimon is incredibly butchered, with the epitome of it being the "movie" which is actually an amalgamation of several movies hastily tied together.

WE'RE KIDS IN AMERICA (WOAH-OH)

It's official release is in January but they are sending sneak peek boxes to game stores. They are trying to keep it 1 trial deck and 1 booster box per customer though for November.

>Making Digimon talk was the first mistake
Statements like this are why I'm glad Digimon isn't Pokemon-tier popular.

While many people criticize pokemon for never changing their gameplay Formula, Digimon often changes their gameplay formula way, way too far in the opposite direction, each game often will have extremely little, if anything at all in common with the games that came before and after it and it drives people away when a sequel has that little in common with its predecessor that they may as well have been a whole new IP

>you will never get to re-live the excitement of rushing over to Blockbuster and getting the Digimon movie on VHS from the new release section and running home to watch it for the first time.

Was completely unaware of this, and am now much more hyped. So like GameStop/Walmart or something? I’m in Kansas City and I don’t want to miss this.
Exactly. From almost any standpoint, them being capable of speech is a plus imo. Pokemon would do it if they thought it’d work. Meowth/Mewtwo are good examples of them dipping their toes in the water but turning pussy halfway.

That is precisely the point they were making, dumbass. 99% of pokemon episodes are literally copy and paste bullshit. You can skip 100 episodes and drop in and not miss anything and be able to understand and pick up what is going on. It is lowest common denominator and its finest, and what is pokemon but the lowest of all possible denominators.
With digimon if you missed one episode you'd be fucking lost and when that happens a lot of people just give up and tune out. Especially back when pokemon and digimon first came out. The internet was still relatively new to most households and its speed was minimal, and finding anime videos back then was difficult. To get into and stay into digimon required a lot more diligence than most kids have, whereas pokemon was easy as fuck to follow and get into and even if you strayed for a bit it was simple to fall back into if you wanted.
