I really wanna enjoy this, but movement makes me want to vomit. They really needed to work on movement before releasing this.

use teleportation

It was an okay game first time through but afterwards there's 0 replay value. Every time I start it up again I end up quitting after 15 minutes.

No, you need to work on your simulation sickness.

if you're new to vr don't start with this game

What are some games I should start with?

How

Play all of the mini games in The Lab (it's free) and then you're pretty much ready. Shift teleport is the GOAT movement type for me

Play until you start to feel sick and then take a break. Keep doing it and the time you spend playing increases. Eat or drink ginger and have a fan blowing in your direction.

I get motion sickness and I was able to completely get over it within a week at most. Whatever you do, don't use retarded teleporting movement.

Use shift teleport ya dummy

>They really needed to work on movement before releasing this.
nah they really didn't. The vast majority of people can handle locomotion once they get over the initial noob sickness, unless you're one of the unlucky few with vertigo problems you'll get used to it.

That's what I've been doing yeah, taking time out, coming back few hours later. Made the mistake of playing a zipline server in VR Chat. Fun but man was that confusing

>paying thousand or so bucks to play Alyx
El o el

VR is dead, dead

I'd probably start with a few games that don't require movement at all, such as Job Simulator or I Expect You to Die. From there, work your way up from games that have Teleport motion and all the way up until you are comfortable with smooth locomotion. At least, that's the most gradual way of doing it. Really all you need is to just familiarize yourself with being in VR for a while until you get used to it. I also recommend standing still while using smooth locomotion as moving IRL at the same time can be a bit nauseating.

>completely ruin the movement to appeal to teleportfags
>NOO YOU NEED TO RUIN IT MORE

this is why you don't even try to appease these people, they won't be happy unless your whole game takes place within 2x2 meters.

Good man. You're well on your way.

I don't think that not moving helps you acclimate to moving. In my experience, the most nauseating thing is trying to do smooth turning, so I usually stick to turning in roomscale.

personal problem

People who go out to sea on ships have this phenomenon where they need to develop "sea legs" to ward off sickness. It's not a whole lot different in VR. You can become resistant to it over time.

It's actually way easier to do in VR since you can stop as soon as you feel off at all. Can't just leave the ship.
Took me 3 days and ~6 hours to acclimate to VR using Jet Island.

use console to increase your movespeed and give yourself all upgrades. Doesn't even mess with your cheevos.

Jet Island (with extreme spin) is probably the ultimate test of simulator sickness. But it's the only way I get it anymore.

I just take these when i start to get motion sickness after playing a while, works pretty quickly too

The snap/fade teleport is retarded. The slide teleport is fine.

if half life alyx makes you want to vomit then boneworks is going to straight up kill you

They're both retarded.

Boneworks is still the only VR game I've played to consistently make me want to throw up. I refunded it after 10 hours citing motion sickness which steam will make an exception for. Its not even that good.

experienced players actually use both the shift teleport in conjuction with the continuous movement for small adjustments. I can imagine them expanding on this for the next half life game, increasing teleport distance, movement speed and dramatically increasing overall health and giving you armor and weapons that focus more on shooting and less on reloading mini games. basically just make it feel like classic doom but in VR. there's your half life 3.

Did you change the movement curve? Not that it matters, the game sucks anyway, but the default movement curve was what was killing me.

Eat something before you start playing. If you feel like throwing up, actually force yourself to throw up by sticking a finger down your throat. You'll feel better instantaneously afterwards and realize its your own brain that's tricking you. Get back into vr right away and repeat until you get acclimated or pass out.

I don't think I tried that, but yeah. Its not even a game. Pavlov has better gun porn and Alyx is the better single player game. I know BW came out first but I knew I'd be rewarded if I just waited.
>experienced players actually use both the shift teleport in conjuction with the continuous movement for small adjustments
I like to think of shift as a combat roll and self balance using it in this context

vr tech isn't "there" yet to allow for good movement. either we will need deep dive tech or just those weird gay treadmills, something to actually let you walk instead of having to press buttons.

try jumping in real life and in the game at the same time to instantly fall on your ass and probably injure yourself.

boneworks was a neat demonstration for VR tech but god fucking damn they just did it WRONG. took zero consideration for what makes a VR shooter fun or functional and just drag and dropped an fps game into a VR format. shit just doesn't fucking work.

and I mean the simple things, like your gun falling out of your hand unless you hold onto it with a death grip the entire time you're playing. sure its "realistic" but it just doesn't work for game design. developers need to stop treating VR like its real life and treat it like just a more advanced way of playing a video game.

dude wtf thats how you get an eating disorder. He should NOT eat before playing, you're going to fucking kill someone

There's some games like HyperDash where you basically have a UT translocator, but basically every game besides Alyx locks you into either smooth movement or teleporting exclusively through a menu option. The only reason why it has to be in Alyx is because there's no jumping. I would say that experienced players rightly look down on the teleportation option in Alyx because it's almost cheating when you move near instantaneously. Zombies and antlions can't be much of a threat if you can literally teleport past them.

That looks like a really cool way of adding teleport to multiplayer.
