HD collection. It's fine.

I wonder if GOG is gonna try to get silent hill 2 and 3.

PC port with the Enhanced patch.

Hard as fuck to get best edition that only sometimes has born from a wish. Otherwise the PC version is superior in every way minus the fog.

Yes it is faggy

they're probably gonna release them before the end of the month

I think the Xbox version backported to the PS2 is the best one?

Holy shit this is so out of date

I really wanna believe that's true but I wouldn't hold my breath

what would be stopping them from releasing it user?

gonna play 3 soon, looking forward to it but not really looking forward to the cult shit. I know it's the heart of the series according to some diehard fans but honestly it's never really done it for me.

enhanced edition. just played through it and it's really great. Whatever you do, don't listen to , HD collection is one of the worst ports of any game.

I'm playing 2 right now for the first time. I'm using pcsx2 and the only video glitch is just small white bars but that's it. I've heard the pc versions are wonky.

I was playing on pcsx2 and then after like an hour and a half I encountered a cutscene that just kept crashing the game no matter what I did, I had to switch to the enhanced PC edition. Good luck to you, but if you run into the same problem just know now that literally nobody online has a fix that works, and the only other person who's posted about it got banned from a forum for posting about it. Save your energy and just switch to enhanced if it happens.

Did you try enabling gspx? All the cutscenes had major processing glitches but enabling it fixed it.

I did but it didn't fix it. I have no clue why this one cutscene kept crashing the game while the others ran without issue but oh well.

as far as I know konami doesnt own the rights to the voice for silent hill 2 or 3

Same, hate to be that guy but I don't like the main lore I literally just like silent hill2

I'm playing the enhanced edition but there's a little flaw. The indoor shadows look amazing but when you are outside in daylight you still have the wonky polygonal shadow on james

Here ya go, OP.

Make sure you're playing late at night, with good headphones. Helps ya get immersed. If ya can't play this on PC, try seeking out a copy for PS2 or Xbox. Avoid the HD collection. Have fun.

You never think of it as being a graphically impressive game, but wow, when you compare silent hill 2 to other stuff that was coming to the ps2 at the time it looks stellar

From what I've heard despite being flawed, The Room has some neat stuff and isn't very cult-heavy. I'm looking forward to playing it, even if it has some issues.

Silent Hill is such a weird franchise. 1 and 3 are connected, 2 and 4 are connected extremely loosely, but 2 is its own thing entirely, kind of a resident evil 4 moment in that every game since has just been trying to recreate silent hill 2, they got too focused on the "protagonist had a secret sin" twist

Homecoming is like if Americans tried to remake silent hill 1 and 2 at te same time but also add third person shooting
Downpour is just silent hill 2 with a worse soundtrack

>as far as I know konami doesnt own the rights to the voice for silent hill 2 or 3

how the hell did they fuck that up?

Xbox has the best visuals in console, but cutscenes are 30 FPS and apparently some sorta of lower audio quality and also less fog effects. PS2 Greatest Hits is the version with Mary sidestory and technically the all rounder.

PC version was a mess but it had fan patches to bring up as perhaps the best version with it.

It's why the HD collection forced you to use the recordings for 3, AFAIK they patched out troy Baker for 2 (although honestly he did a good job)

There's some confusion, but Konami didn't make a contract for some of the SH2, which was the case with Guy Cihi, there was some sort of battling over the VA because Guy tought he had residual rights like in movies and TV, then they explained that you don't have in games. He signed a new contract alongside the rest of the cast.

However, there's some controversy in the whole thing, Mary Elizabeth was a Konami veteran and Troy Baker (who was James new voice) is big on the industry and apparently both made criticisms about Guy Cihi. Silent Hill 3 for example didn't have the old VA option, did Konami lose the source files? Or there was something indeed related to residuals? Not to mention that years later with Tales of Vesperia Bandai Namco didn't even call Troy Baker to re-voice his character and was replaced by someone else, there's no option to play with old voices in that one too.

Serious question here, what's wrong with the HD version?

It's actually the second most recent version
I'm guessing there hasn't been anything new to add for some time

Especially since games like Deus Ex and Morrowind came out around the same time and look like ass
