So has it been actually confirmed that Microsoft and/or Nintendo themselves didn't want to bother with licensing? Last I heard the reason of Sonic not getting any remixes is because of Nintendo itself disallowed rather than Sakurai's team and Sega, confirmed by some Sega interns. I wonder how the Minecraft compositors reaction to this was like, since they've been talked about a lot since then.
I don't even really like Minecraft, but seeing the Smash team pour all that effort on the real deal would've been interesting to say the least. They clearly put effort into making the spinoff songs sound like the original songs too.
Weird that Sega would not allow it since Sonic got a remix for Brawl.

There are a few songs from Minecraft itself, they're just from it's minigame/battle modes instead of the core mode, so I really doubt it's a licensing issue. It seems like they didn't want to force atmospheric stuff into a fighting game.
Levi Fisher
Well okay but it's perfectly reasonable to force atmospheric stuff into Smash.
Austin Hill
Pigstep would have fit, bit may have been too late.
Nolan Barnes
IIRC Sakurai said that music from the main Minecraft game wouldn't really fit a fighting game since what few songs are there are very calm and atmospheric. A lot of the MC music in Smash is from spinoffs and the like.
Gabriel Harris
This again? That excuse was clearly to cover up the fact, iconic beats tone in Smash Bros.
I know very little about minecraft since I stopped keeping up with it back when it was in beta but isn't most of its soundtrack ambient tunes? I know there's some stages like elektroplankton where they just embrace it but Sakurai's said somewhere (think it as the joker trailer?) that they had to remix some tracks to make them fit with smash better so it might be the same mindset.

Terry and Mega Man were godsends. Being a Megamanfag never tasted so sweet, though it made me wish I was into Castlevania as well. Too bad my other favorite, Sonic, was robbed.
I'm just glad they added studiopolis zone even if it doesn't really fit with either sonic stage
Matthew Perez
honestly was sad that they did ness dirty like they did but we did get some good s hit out of 4U and Brawl I guess.
There are still a lot of really nice earthbound songs they could have used and I wish we had gotten one more stage at least.
Adam Nelson
Weird how good Megaman is in comparision to Street Fighter that only has music from 2, but twice and even thrice the same theme
Jayden Gonzalez
I think most of the artists are veterans and thus old and likely grew up on his games, so they have a huge bias on him. Also helps that Megaman is currently struggling to stay popular, so they might want to give him some push while he's still around. Not to mention how iconic his songs are over there too.

While I understand that Mother/EarthBound even being in Smash is just a vestige of days long gone, it does seem a bit weird that Mother gets so little in the way of music when music has been such a big part of the series Mother's soundtrack had lyrics on the CD release, EarthBound had that weird and quirky (for a SNES RPG) sample-heavy stuff, Mother 3 went all-in on leitmotifs, and had the beat combo system for battles which resulted in tons of battle tracks.
that latter argument falls apart though because environmental noises is still in the game
Gavin Adams
I thought the reason was obvious, most of the in-game music is meant to be relaxing, and Sakurai obviously thought there wasn't a way to make that work for Smash
Jace Campbell
Apparently Sakurai made a short mention of "several issues" involving the original music before giving the calm nature of most of it as the main reason, but the localized versions of the video only accounted for that one reason. Considering the original versions of Halland, Dalarna, and Earth are calmer than even a lot of stuff in vanilla Minecraft, I'm guessing the copyright troubles were probably a bigger deal than they made it out to be publicly. I've been wondering if C418 had some issue with it, but I could easily see it just being one of the other parties involved not wanting to bother. That said, you wouldn't really expect it to be that hard to get in touch with one person unless there were some other issues involved. Lena Raine's music probably had its own slew of issues, namely 1. Nether music being an odd fit for the stage, 2. the Nether Update coming way too late into Steve's planning and development, and 3. just being too small a part of Minecraft considering all that C418 did before. Thus, there was little chance of it being included. Even if we got original Minecraft music, at best only Pigstep would have been ported over.

>So has it been actually confirmed that Microsoft and/or Nintendo themselves didn't want to bother with licensing? Sakurai openly fucking said mainline minecraft music was TOO FUCKING CALM. TOO. CALM. YOU RETARDED DEAF MOTHER FUCKER. THAT'S WHY IT WASN'T INCLUDED.
Aiden Foster
They're really missing out on some golden opportunities IMO. I wish they'd reevaluate their stance on how they treat older games though.
Juan White
Faggot, please, that doesnt even make sense since we got that info by subtitles only
Here you go btw

At least 1 ported song from the actual thing would've excused this thread, what a pity
I’m still mad that they never included any more Xenoblade 2 songs despite the original artists being in Smash already.
Michael Cook
I know people are going to bring up Environmental Noises and some AC songs, the story I heard is that Sakurai was once watching some intense tournament match but The Roost was playing, it changed his thinking on the whole thing.

reminder that the composers choose what they arrange so the reason some franchises get nothing and others get a ton is because of composer bias
