And even if she knew Sam was lying and called him out on it, she'd still get all three of them to go just to stick it to Rafe after how him and Nathan fell out.

They promised to stop the dangerous treasure hunting life. Nate didn't think Elaine would want him trying to help his convict brother on a wild goose chase (which is exactly what happens, and she's proven right when it's reveled Nate's brother was a lying the entire time). Nate did want to save his brother, but he also never wanted to give up the life.

By the end, his brother redeems himself for being a piece of shit (people aren't just black or white evil or good. They're complicated). And Nate and Elaine realize they love the life too much to give it up. It's who they are and why they fell in love in the first place.

This game's story had issues, but it's god-tier compared to LoU2, and it's easily the best Uncharted game in terms of writing.

Uncharted 4 is the worst when it comes to writing. Neil and Bruce don't have a shit about what they were doing.
They ruined the element of "Nathan Drake" is the descendant of Sir. Francis Drake in return they gave the scene of an old woman dying ...

They did not explain at any point in the trilogy that Drake had a brother.
The plot twist is predictable as shit.

Drama is fine, melodrama sucks dicks. Any retard with a highschool English diploma can churn out trashy melodrama as it just appeals to emotion and leaves any underlying logic at the door.
It takes a genuinely competent writer to execute genuine drama, which has the same emotional impact as melodrama but still has the characters think and behave in a believable manner with as few contrivances to the plot as possible.
