Is that going to be the narrative going forward?

"Oh these games look like shit because the HARDWARE IS OUTDATED. YOU HAVE TO UPGRADE KEKS."

So there is a reason for so many textures being low quality as fuck in that game then?

Will the PC version fix this then?

KILL YOURSELF ECELEB DICKSUCKING FAGS
KILL YOURSELF OP

Wait for the PC version.

That's on Squeenix. Their shit optimization is what causes these problems. The PS4 should be capable of properly rendering shit that's just this level, but Japan's just bad at optimization.

post the link fag

>Will the PC version fix this then?
What do you think genius?
It's also going to fix the low frame rate "bug" :^)

NOOO NOT THE HECKIN TEXTURES!!!!!
THUMBS UP IF GAMES ARE TRASH UNLESS PHOTOREALISTIC AMIRITE

Who hurt you?

15 had the exact same issues, square can't even use their own engine worth a damn.

Wait, is that why all the junk in the junkyard area looks melted? Because SE fucked up at optimizing their game?

Shut up faggot

Thanks for unironically beta testing for Xbox SeX chads

Stop sperging then.

?

Honestly, I would believe it, but that wouldn't explain why the skyboxes in some area were low res and pixelated as fuck.

Why did devs forget how to optimize shit properly? There was a time when you could fit an absurd amount of content in a tiny-ass 8KB cartridge but nowadays the assholes fill out 100GB worth of disk space and STILL end up with shit like this.

It's not even just Japan anymore, the west has gotten just as bad. No one knows how to optimize shit anymore.

A lot of times nowadays it feels competitive- the larger your game is, the less space the consumer has and has to decide which games they like enough to keep installed on their drive
Though personally all that does for me is make my decisions easier when I am trying to make room, so who knows

I told you to shut up faggot

They do it to save time. The faster a job's completed the more money their boss gets.

"No" - Me (2020)

It's a side effect of hard drive space getting immensely larger and cheaper at the same time. Somewhere around the late 00s devs just figured "well yeah just fuck compression, they have enough space." On top of that the big name publishers figured out that you can get people to spend more time playing your game and less time playing other games because they won't want to constantly delete and redownload giant games, so they bloat the fuck out of everything. Guarantee something like FF7R could be smashed down to like 50GB.

If they're gonna use this much space, can't they at least make sure the game looks good? What's the point in putting all this effort into high-quality textures and then shitting the fan at the optimization stage, making it all look like shit in the end anyway?

There's less of a need for it now so devs practice it less, so then when devs actually need to do it they lack the skills to do it properly.

It's Square Enix. Competence from them past like 2006 is a rare occurrence.

Not the first gen this has happened. The engine does that so the game doesn't crash.

I remember being annoyed by visual novels easily taking up to 8 or 10GB on PC (meanwhile the handheld versions were either in the range of 1GB or 3GB) despite they were glorified powerpoints with just voice acting and background music.
The large data size often required for modern games made me avoid them in general (save for a very few exceptions) because I heavily doubt they're truly justified.

If you want to preserve the full quality of the image, it can take up a ton of space. A single HQ image could easily take up 5MB or more. Most VNs have hundreds, potentially thousands of images, so it all adds up.

I would assume some of that is due to better loading performance. If you keep the images uncompressed you can just immediately load them. There's a reason you can hold control and skip through an entire VN with no hitching
