Ass Creed 3

So why did this get so much hate again?
I can understand disliking the game in general, even though I liked it. But fans of the ezio games shit on it too, despite it breaking lots of the tedium and rejuvenating the series with many new welcome features and improvements. Not without its flaws, glitches and half the main story being a tutorial for example, but this game really isn’t that bad. Certainly not the worst in the series.

It was the first AC game in my memory to introduce the whole 'find 20 squirrel anuses to craft a holster' shit.

I liked it, but I didn’t really care for the Ezio games. Idiots thought it was a downgrade because you weren’t climbing cathedrals anymore. Story was pretty forgettable but the atmosphere was nice. Connor has to be a pure hearted native so he’s kind of boring as a character, but I’d rather have him than the shit we’re getting nowadays

In the lead up to the game everyone was dunking on it expecting it to be rah rah americah bullshit. Then when it came out the gameplay was pretty snoozefest, the prologue/tutorial lasted for 3 hours, and they bait-and-switched us (which was a good move) but a lot of people preferred Haytham (?) to Connor, which left a sour taste in their mouth.

Then there's the whole WHERE IS CHARLES LEE going on.

The map was full of absolutely fucking nothing, just forests and boring towns, which would be fine except that there was also nothing to do in it. The homestead stuff was good character-building but boring to actually play.

They also hadn't yet started implementing the RPG features - it was still solidly an action game, but the gameplay was dumbed down.

Basically, I'd summarise these key points:
>boring physical setting (the politics were cool and well executed)
>poorly-paced story
>boring quests and collectibles
>boring dumbed-down action gameplay
>no RPG elements yet to compensate for the dumbed down action gameplay

It was a transitional game between old asscreed and new asscreed and it shows.

Also, I always found Connor to be an interesting character executed in a boring way. The social complexity of being a native caught between two worlds is hard to bring out in an action game.

It was also the first to add animals besides horses and birds.

Yeah, I get this
I had nostalgia for the ezio games, but after replaying them and now playing AC3, holy fuck they were bad
Even the story wasn’t much to care about, aside from ezio being a cool character
I much prefer the 3-Unity games

People coming off Ezio thought Connor was boring, the plot takes a while to actually start and even the devs in retrospective interviews said how they fucked up in having two tutorials because after playing with Haytham for a while you then have like a three hour tutorial with young Connor. Too little Desmond in that the game where he finally gets to do shit and be a modern day Assassin he's killed off. A bunch of people found the homestead and the underground city tunnels tedious, and the ship to be limited, which Black Flag fixed. Also a lot of people found the setting boring, unlike something like the Italian renaissance or the Crusades unless you're American you won't give a fuck about a bunch of old men talking politics. It wasn't bad and I'm if the opinion that Ezio should've never had three games but gameplay-wise Black Flag was a straight upgrade in freedom for the most part while narrative-wise the devs wanted to release it before the 21st of December of 2012 so a lot of it was rushed, includes the single most kino moment for Connor.

I will get shat on but one of the most important things in any game is how likable is the MC is, i never played Black flag ( i presume the MC must be a cool guy since everyone liked that game) but i found the guy in 3 boring as fuck, and the only fun character was the templar (didn't go further than the "twist")
Was all around pretty boring, and you need to be a special kind of retard to not put effort in you rMC after Ezio.

>It was a transitional game between old asscreed and new asscreed and it shows
"New" at the time, maybe. But not nu-AC refers to garbage Witcher wannabes. AC stopped being good with Unity.

my only complaint was the lack of fast travel points in the frontier area
that was fucking annoying

I preferred his dad also.

I remember watching this way, way too many times all those years ago. Still peak kino for me, desu.

>unlikeable main character that replaced the better character that players spent a few hours on at the start of the game
>had a poor ending to desmond's story
>the setting didn't lend itself well to parkour like the large cities of europe
>had a very buggy and unfinished feel to the game

I enjoyed how every Templar death was them calling Connor a fucking idiot.

rome and constantinople were one big map and it all felt connected. boston, new york and the wilderness were all disconnected and it didn't flow well

>have what could be the equivalent of the MCU in vidya form
>fuck it up with greed and replacing writers and the original ideas guy
I hope Désilets ends up making 1666, fuck Ubisoft.

>go from rome and constantinople to garbage american wilds
how could peope not complain?

the writing was fucking stupid. the older games had characters interacting with famous figures but 3 went full retard and made connor sit in on the declaration of independence and be on the horse with paul revere during the midnight ride. it was also poor writing when connor finds out that washington was the guy he wanted revenge over all along and he doesn't do anything because washington supposedly wasn't assassinated in real life

AC3 aged the worst out of all the "classic" Assassin's Creed games. The DLC was absolute garbage too.

It's a shame that the series is stuck in this open world RPG phase, and we can't get another game like Rogue. That shit was comfy as fuck.

we also don't know what connor did after 3 so they easily could've ended the game with connor attempting to kill washington but failing and dying. just make some sidestory mission about connor fucking some chick so his bloodline got continued

Really? Even worse than AC1? I played the game for the first time back in 2015 or so, and it was so repetitive that I couldn't even finish it. Got about 2/3 and dropped it hard.
Never got into the series despite picking up most of the games on a clearance sale at gamestop.

>Even worse than AC1
Filtered, AC1 is unaltered ludo. It and Unity are the only ones where you're an actual fucking Assassin, and the atmosphere irl trapped in the Abstergo lab is creepy sneaking around and reading emails.

Why hasn't there been a major AC game with a black or Asian protagonist yet? No, Liberation and that Black Flag DLC doesn't count.

Is the fanbase that racist?

I really enjoyed the setting, even though as other anons said it didn’t flow as well as Rome and Constantinople, it did feel alive and lived in. I also enjoyed the homestead and naval missions immensely.
The combat felt improved over 1&2 although the stealth seemed worse.
Yeah Connor sucks but I really think it’s a solid game that gets a lot of hate due to the fact that 2 was just so good and it couldn’t live up to expectations.
Maybe it’s just because I have a hard on for colonial American history but it’s one of my more liked games

AC1 is a relic gameplay-wise, but its story is iconic. AC3 is frankly skippable for anyone getting into the series.

Funny thing, I had lots of nostalgia for AC2 as well
After replaying the ezio games it’s my least favourite one
It’s very dated, boring, repetitive, and the plot isn’t very impressive either

How was Syndicate radically different from Unity?

A lot of it was focused on pointless collectibles and side-quests that added literally fucking nothing to the game. The setting was boring as sin too.

Bro you're literally describing every AC game.

>The combat felt improved over 1&2
I disagree. I feel like people played combat in those games like Ubisoft later on turned the actual combat into, ie mash the attack button or wait around for counterattacks, but combat in 1 and I'm guessing 2 although I don't remember wasn't half bad. You had three weapons with different speed and counter windows, the sword being the standard, the dagger being faster but with a shorter counter window, and the hidden blade being unable to counter and having the shortest counter window but instantly killing all enemies regardless of rank.
You also had both fast and strong attacks, and you could do "combos" if you attack again when both your blade and the enemy's clashed, and if you did it enough times you would execute them if they were low tier or weaken them with a punch if they were high tier. Enemies could also grab you in which case you had to press a button if you had the ability unlocked to stop them, and you could grab them yourself to throw them against breakable furniture for an instant death or to the floor to finish them off instantly if you equipped the hidden blade. You could also evade to the side of an attack and chain it with an attack of your own. Higher tier enemies like Templars or guards in rich districts would take more hits, require two counters, break your combos and evade your strikes.

With III/BF/Rogue you mash attack and there's literally nothing that can stop you, and if there is a giant res flag on top of the enemies warns you. You could play the early games without learning any of that because half of said mechanics are useless given the games are already too easy and that's a flaw with them but holy shit was combat further dumbed down.
