user's not wrong. Rollback should be the modern standard, but you're crazy if you think it's somehow going to massively revitalize these games that were extremely niche in the first place. At best you'll be able to comfortably play them with a few hundred people, which will nice at least.

Rollback isn't going to do anything to "solve" the issue of player retention, because you can't do anything to make people enjoy learning when it's already easier than it's ever been.
