Xbox controller just works but micro USB ports are known break if you breath on them. If you can find a non third party 360 pad in good condition that'd be based. If not XBone pads will do just fine. Dualshock 4s and switch are great pads too if you're using steams official support for them

To get around the micro USB problem with ds4 I actually got me the official Sony wireless adapter and it works well. Ds4 wireless actually communicates faster over Bluetooth as well so there you go

Wireless DS4 has lower latency than wired Xbox controllers and has a touch pad that functions as a mouse when necessary. Helpful in games with limited controller support.

Switch Pro Controller. I already had one and I was surprisingly amazed when I knew you can use on Steam. Not that great for shooters but pretty nice for platformers
