Their made to redirect the blast from a bomb and absorb or soften the impact of anything it doesn't redirect. My cousin was EOD in Kandahar and he said they're only good for very small explosions like grenades or small IEDs. Even if the suit stops the explosion from crushing you, the vacuum created still royally fucks up your eyes, ears and lungs.

bullets will go right through it generally, it's to keep you insulated and to deflect debris and shrapnel so that you have a higher chance of survival

It's a bomb disposal suit, it's used to protect dudes trying to disarm or move explosives. You need dexterity to do that and thick padded gloves don't help. The suit protects vitals from small blasts and the shrapnel it produces

Again protective gear like that is meant to protect VITALS, brain, heart, lungs ect not hands which you don't need to live. No, it contains kevlar but also foam to absorb the blast wave and a metal plate in that black part to protect against shrapnel. That plate is going to stop/deflect a few rifle rounds before failing. So you wouldn't want to walk towards someone firing an assault rifle, but if you're hit in the front you'll be better off than with a ballistic vest since the shock will also partially absorbed.

There are more AK variants in circulation than any other automatic rifle. They are extremely durable and multifunctional. Most american made *good* weapons are prone to jamming and cant take the beating like aks. Newest ak series weapons also have exceptional recoil compensation and can be shot full auto with passable accuracy. Russians almost exclusively use ak variants.
