Can't decide whether I like the sequel more or not.

LM1 is definitely superior. 2 is too derivative and doesn't have the same impact as 1. Also too many puzzles in 2 just involve chanting a mantra in some way.

I was thinking more about level design. 2's less thematic levels (compared to 1's blatant fire, water, desert, etc) aren't as memorable.

And it if is memorable it feels too close to 1

I wouldn't quite say that. The ones that clearly stay with me/can recall off the top of my head are the spacey eqyptian zone (with the room flipping), and the immortal battleground.

I supposed despite using basic elements (fire, ice, desert, etc), 1's localces managed to stand out. Even the non-elemental ones like some of the backdoor areas are memorable. And the music as well, despite having a bit more playtime for 2.

Easy mode compared to La Mulana, but still had to scribe a map of Malignance and some other stuff.

What is that, Marrow?

getting the freeware version to run on anything non-prehistoric is ass
>sprites have ugly grey blocks around them
>extremely low fps in boss fights
>text is missing
>fix ones of these issues
>text appears but also overlayed with the lamulana script, making it almost unreadable

Works fine on Windows 7

Requires you to have your own RPG journal. Write down EVERYTHING!

2 is better, but I like 1's lore and setting slightly more.

>Every area has a frontside and a backside

Brilliant.

>If the guardian is not in the front, it's in the back

Exciting.

>When you figure that the Dimensional Corridor is the backside, because Tiamat twisted herself and her children out of reality to escape the mother's wrath

Oh god I'm cumming

Gotta jot down those coordinates.

I like the remake more, mostly cus its fun to replay every now and then.
Can't say the same for 2, that was almost a one and done kind of deal if not for the 'one-figner' replay.

Sometimes I have to write down fusion combos for SMT IV.

Underrail pre-map update.
Huge-ass world with vague directions on quests.
Have not had such joy in being lost and finally founding the place I was looking for after first playthrough.

Want to get into this
What version do I get and do you have any tips?
Like what should I keep note of

Would LoG count?

Me neither, I love both. I honestly just want more of the same, since you can't replay those games again for the puzzle part.
Also Brahma should have been a mandatory puzzle

>tfw my copy runs just fine
>except that it fucking crashes after beating Mother

Yeah

>What version do I get
PC

>and do you have any tips?
read the manual, it helps love a big puzzle in area 1 to get you the fast travel item

>Like what should I keep note of
everything on the tablets. You do have an app that lets you save tablet text but you only have like 20 things you can save

Have a screencap and ms paint open and just take notes of EVERYTHING. Otherwise you are gonna be lost and confused, and you might have to consult a guide. That's what I did, and I'm partially ashamed. At least I was ashamed until the gate of illusion. That place can eat one hundred million chodes.

I'd like 2 better if it didn't drop off so hard for the final area/boss. Both games are excellent though.

Get the remake. The original is alright but it's pretty rough to play compared to the remake and like said, there are a lot of technical issues that can pop up with it depending on your PC.

I know I'm late but definitely recommend the remake. You should watch this first:

Also I can only confirm the other 2 comments telling you to read the manual and take notes. Especially reading the manual, so many people seem to not realize how much important stuff is included especially when you're just starting out. You can skip the item descriptions and stuff since they're sort of spoilers but still:

Also La-Mulana is generally the kind of game that always intentionally does and says things. If something seems off even if it's just a tiny detail then there's usually meaning behind it. Also when the game tells you to do or not to do something you better listen. Keep different save files in case you ever mess up something.

>stay in gate of guidance until you have looted 4 of the large chests. you can continue if you want to, but if you don't know what you're doing its easy to get lost.
>the backswing of your whip can hit above you.
>hints are present in different forms besides tablets.

Also in regards to note taking: The game will allow you to save tablet texts but there's only limited space so you're probably still better off writing down/saving anything of note. Also try to revisit old areas every once in while. You never know what you might have overlooked or what new paths might have opened up because of the progress you made elsewhere especially when it comes to new items.

>NIGORO split up after 2
Sad.
