HDR

Is HDR a meme or does it only look good on super expensive TVs?
Looks like shit on mine when playing vidya.

not a meme, my tv looks noticeably better when I have it turned on, and I have one of the cheapest tvs you can get.

the game you're playing needs to also support hdr

>Is HDR a meme
Yes

>Looks like shit on mine when playing vidya.
That's because ur tv sucks

Do you really have to turn on dynamic contrast for it to look better?
Mine looks washed out.

>vizio
shit taste

depends on the nits your display is able to throw at you

Got it because it was the highest rated 43" on RTINGS at the time.

I got 100 dollars from their class action lawsuit.

Mine has 400.
Should i bother with HDR?

Bought this one rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/m7-series-quantum-2019 and HDR looks like shit.

It's objectively amazeballs.

HDR is a meme right now. First off very few games even support HDR, and of the games that support HDR very few do it well.

pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_games_that_support_high_dynamic_range_display_(HDR)

I just got a good quality TV with HDR yesterday and it blew me away. Definitely not a meme.

If you have a cheap HDR TV, it's pointless.

10-bits per color is not the same thing as HDR. HDR is a standard that governs gamut and Luminance not just how many bits per channel you can display. If you're looking for an HDR display look for HDR10+ certification.

Its a meme. Like 144hz.
You have a very very very very very very very little microscopic difference but it not deserve you to buy any of those gadget.

HdR is not a real deal, cause if it was better than what we have bedore, it will already replace it. So.... its totally useless

>does it only look good on super expensive TVs?
Yes, most tvs that support hdr only support it, but cant show it correctly. Only an oled tv or a tv with lots of zones (q9fn) can do hdr right. Same goes for monitors. Only 2 monitors on the market do hdr right, and those begin at 1200,-. You can get a really good hdr tv for about 1400(55" lg cx).

What does HDR even do? Darker dark colors against brighter bright colors is my gist of understanding.

I don't look at any monitor or TV I currently own and think its not covering all the colors it should.

I still play on a CRT monitor because motion blur hurts my eyes like fuck.

This is bullshit and proof that your poorm hdr os the biggest game changer when it comes to picture quality and it costs 0 perfomance. Hdr beats the fuck out of ray tracing when it comes to picture quality, but most people are priced out.

I got a 4k Oled (48in LG CX specifically) and you can definately tell the difference when its on. Anyone saying its a "meme" has never used a HDR TV before or maybe is using a super low HDR device. My only problem is that HDR seems to be tied to framerate capability of the graphics card as my 5700XT automatically turns off HDR if I set the frames above 60.

Its really fucking neato though. My one warning would be if you plan on using a aHDTV as a monitor. that shit is uncomfortable as fuck if you plan on using MkB still and not swapping to controller and your eyes WILL hurt from the strain after like 30 minutes or so. A small small Part of me kinda wishes I had just gotten a 360HZ monitor instead of this thing but its pretty fucking amazing for watching normal TV and shit

It's not supposed to make the colours "pop" but rather have more realistic colours. People aren't used to it and many don't like it. Also the game needs to have proper HDR implementation, many developers are lazy on that front and half ass it.

HDR is worth it if you arent poor an can afford a good tv like an OLED.

If you buy shit bargain walmart poor fuck tvs that cost less than 500 you are wasting money

I don’t know. Probably. My Sony HX850 looks equal to or better than sets out today.

These are some much better HDR displays

just buy tcl 8 series

>Like 144hz
Dumb framelet. You're just like console tards that think 60fps is a meme

That would explain it.
The colors just look dull and don't pop at all.
I hate it.

most people can't see difference between 75hz and 144hz

A TV needs to be either a backlit VA with local dimming or, more ideally, an OLED to have real HDR. TVs that are edgelit or don't have local dimming can't actually replicate the function, and if they're IPS panels the black levels are gonna suck.

With the proper kind of TV and content that's mastered well, HDR is a game-changer, but with a shitty TV that claims compatibility only in a technical sense it's not gonna be as good.

brighter image = better
i set brightness on min on my monitor and i don't care

nah i actually keep my monitor and TV backlight fairly low

proper HDR is about replicating the highlights of the images while keeping the dimmer parts of the image appropriately dim

that's why semi-HDR tvs and shitty dynamic contrast settings suck

Retard, the human eye can't see anything higher than 30fps
