Simon is no dumber than half the people who post here about SOMA. They didn't understand the game either. Simon is a relatable everyman, which is to say a moron.
I didnt think he was particularly stupid, he just fell for the coin toss meme, not like he had a choice in that situation but to go along
>in edgy rapture
give me a break
>man with little brain power becomes computer program that requires little system resources
I get being surprised the first time but when it happens again it was unrealistic that he didn't learn.
His brain is bleeding
So you can identify with him because clearly you're a dumbass yourself
It's because from his perspective it was just like a body hop, and to him the "old body" is the clone. He thought he won a 50/50 coin flip because from his perspective he is the "real one" and he ended up in the intended body. Catherine shuts the old Simon down quickly to prevent any conversation from happening, which would reveal the truth. Catherine never really lies to him but from that point onwards she feeds Simon's delusions when she could easily correct them.
Where did Simon's first robo body come from? Why was there just a headless dead lady on a chair filled with goop and electronics for his memory to be implanted into?
It's the corpse of the protagonist from those live-action shorts Frictional made. She tried to kill WAU and failed.
>character canonically has brain damage
>wowww why is this guy an idiot
when do you think the ark will die?
How is Simon a dumbass other than at the end? Even then you could argue that he was tricked into doing it.
The WAu set it all up, but if you're asking how Imogen's body ended up in Upsilon then it's never explained anywhere
It makes it quite hard to relate to the main character
>damn why is this guy with brain damage so stupid
Gee I fucking wonder. Also, Rapture and Pathos II are as different as two locations could be beside 'advanced undersea lab'. Different goals, different intents, different time periods, different tech, completely different design.
why would you lie like this? There's an entire short series about this and everything is explained in game. If you want to know more, youtube.com
Simon isn't stupid, he has brain damage and he's thrown in a situation so outlandish it would destabilize most sane and healthy people. If you think you could adapt to a situation similar to his much better you are most definitely wrong.
I understand that watching somebody else fumble through a situation you can grasp just fine can be frustrating and therefore not a great idea narratively, but people blow Simon's reaction out of proportion.
To be fair he 'won' the coin toss twice, so it makes sense he'd expect that at the end too.
more deep sea games when
he is constantly having philosophical thoughts and asking questions throughout the game except at the two points where the narrative demands he doesn't, You know you are making a shit argument.
How the fuck are you supposed to think straight in his situation?
Explain why the coin toss is only a meme.
There is no winning or losing.
The only reason the game didn't end at the start or when he got transferred into the other suit was because we got put into the new body's perspective.
From the new Simon's perspective, he won the coin toss, but there was never a coin toss to begin with because the mind isn't transferred, just copied.
it is just copied, but surely the coin toss is whether or not it turns out that you were actually the copy all along and everything you think you experienced is recorded memory from the scan rather than genuine
asking questions and wanting to understand the basics of your surroundings doesn't mean you're smart, it's human nature. if i woke up in a robot body under the fucking ocean yeah i'd start questioning shit too.
Simon literally had brain damage.
His philosophical thoughts are completely uneducated and come from the fact that he has literally nothing to do besides pursue his task so he has a ton of free time to think. He uses very simple logic to reflect on the observations he makes as he passes through the building and whenever it comes to understanding something from an outside source that he hasn't come up with himself, he completely misunderstands it. You're a retard.
There is no coin toss user. That's said specifically by everyone who actually understands what's happening; Catherine, Johan and the people who want to launch the Ark. Only Strang, his desperate followers in denial and Simon think there might actually be a coin toss. Your consciousness can never, ever move into the new body.
Suppose you throw a coin enough times. Suppose one day, it lands on its edge
They ARE NOT US!
There is no coin toss
You only switch bodies for narrative purposes, having you experience Simon 3 stuck at the Omega Space Gun is supposed to illustrate the fate of the previous ones before switching to Ark Simon
We've had this discussion ten thousand times now
>Simon is a relatable everyman
He's a literally brain damaged everyman that has a lessened capacity to deal with high stakes choices and trauma.
He latched onto it hard because he most likely lacked the cognitive functions to deal with it considering the circumstances on how he came to be.
