The answer can't be "because Apex Legends is free to play and Titanfall isn't". It can't be THAT simple right? I don't see how a franchise like Titanfall with millions of dollars of marketing turned out to underperform while Apex Legends literally released with no marketing and had millions of concurrent players when it launched. I've played both games and they're both very fun although Apex is a more stripped back version, much more similar to PUBG.
I seriously don't get it. How could one franchise flop so hard and another be so successful?
It got crushed on launch for several reasons. Most importantly because BF1 sucked all the air out of the room. It keeps dying now after it surges because it didn‘t receive a ton of post launch content because of the botched launch and players that pick the game up now are faced with 1000+++ hour veterans with no real way to learn the game organically.

EA wanted it to fail just to absorb the studio.
Christian Collins
I've seen the conspiracy theories but they claimed Respawn picked the release date. But it does seem convenient how they were bought out by EA at the same time. Still not enough evidence though.
Austin White
Because it released right in between the new CoD and Battlefield games. Also BR is the biggest zoomer hype so there's that too. It was mainly due to bad release timing though.

Apex Legends has fun and engaging core loop. The characters are interesting and the "powers" are just varied enough to keep it interesting as well. Titanfall 2 was good, really good. Although it did feel like a step back in some terms when compared to TF1. The Single player story wasn't enough to engage a as many people and the multiplayer was only so good compared to other options at the time. As said before it tries to come back every now and then, but the single player is still just what it is and the multiplayer is full of people who never stopped playing and can make the game frustrating for people wanting to jump in.
Apex is also full of great people, but their matchmaking keeps that somewhat in check and the fact that you can literally be dropped into an area and get nothing but shit while another can drop next to you with a gold and kill you in seconds.
Luis Rivera
Both games are in the same universe. Apex is just an extension of Titanfall.
Apex is f2p, presumably cheaper to work for (especially with how fucking slow the devs are on meaningful updates), and makes more money because of their jewish microtransactions and limited time events. The rest of the studio are working on licensed properties like star wars which makes EA much more money.
Xavier Hall
Some user told me he thought the multiplayer maps weren't very good and he concluded that's what killed it.
What're you talking about, TF2s campaign has been highly praised as one of the best FPS campaigns in ages. >the multiplayer was only so good compared to other options at the time. What are you talking about, literally nothing has surpassed it
David Richardson
>Both games are in the same universe. Apex is just an extension of Titanfall. low iq zero self-awareness post. lorefaggotry is irrelevant to the discussion
Angel Lopez
yeah for all the good work that went into making good gameplay mechanics, the maps were kinda half assed, both in form and function they’re fine, but none really stand out
Ryder Ross
The maps are the weakest part of the game for sure. Especially the launch maps. But they aren‘t bad enough to kill the game. Not even remotely.
Logan Perez
I just want a new one bros... it hurts... It‘s been too fucking long...
Caleb Stewart
DESU I feel like Apex is what they wanted Titanfall to always be, a multiplayer only battle royal kinda game. Hell the 1st one didn't even have a campaign. I feel like when they were developing Apex they stipped the titans and wallrunning because it was "too complex" and wanted to just streamline it.
Hunter Phillips
They literally have the same character
Gavin Cruz
You're still too dumb to understand what I wrote. Stop replying.
Noah Bailey
Would I like Apex if I like Titanfall 2?
Hudson Wood
You‘ll start the game, pick pathfinder, you‘ll do a grapple fling and have fun for 5 seconds as you land and do a long-ass slide, then you press jump again and that‘s where you uninstall and reinstall Titanfall 2.
Logan Hill
Not him but he also addressed your question in the second half the post. Apex is skinnerbox shit designed to appeal to the masses, Titanfall was just generic as fuck and had no personality.
Isaac Evans
To be more clear: Game is ok, but I‘ve had matches with enough downtime in it to play a full round of Titanfall 2 in. I just don‘t get the Battle Royale meme. And the entire time it just reminds me that I could be having more fun in a shorter period with TF2.
Liam Brown
This. I played when it first came out, got a decent downhill slide going, realized how much better the slide feels in Tittyfuck 2 and went back to it immediately
Alexander Price
No actual marketing or exposure was given to Titanfll 2, the release date is only one part of the picture. EA barely let people know Titanfall 2 was coming out.
Nolan Reyes
Titanfall 2 was so fucking backwards in comparison to Titanfall 1
They fucked up the movement, the guns, the titans, the maps, the modes, even the campaign was so unoriginal they had to put you on a train so you couldn't actually use a titan
Putting it out between two giants was just the last straw
And it's amazing how many people blindly defend TF2 despite the fact literally everything is at least one step backwards.
Respawn made the best FPS of the generation with TF1. They haven't made a good game since
Joseph Lopez
Honestly what really makes it hard for Titanfall to keep new players is that there's a learning curve to the game. Long time veterans will 100% steamroll new players. I remember the first time I played this game and I keep getting killed out of nowhere.
Benjamin Collins
Now this is a shit take, of course it comes from a fucking Reddit spacer
Austin Edwards
This post gave me cancer
Jacob Watson
imagine having such a garbage opinion
Jeremiah Anderson
It's been 7 years and you're still not over your Xbone launch purchase. Titanfall 2 was better in every way and it takes the most contrarian of contrarians to say otherwise. The original maps are the worst part of Titanfall 2
Ethan Price
I’ve spent over $400 on cosmetics on apex
Zachary Jones
Titanfall 1 was on 360 and on PC.
Jace Howard
its called neo trolling, you make aggravating statement and type it in reddit style, for free (you)s
SMG faggots ruined the game by abusing that retarded class. It's not fun to use the baby-mode gun that makes the game too easy, and it's even less fun to watch a killcam and see the enemy miss >90% of shit shots and STILL kill you because it's a SMG. If you ever do as much as consider using SMGs on TF2, kill yourself immediately.
Adrian Morgan
This^^^^^^^^^ I tried several times to get back into TF2, but it's just impossible. I tried doing different playstyles, mix it up and all that jazz, but everything got crushed under the meta of OP weapons. Plus, it felt fucking cruel to play Ion (the most noob-friendly class) because any person without Alzheimer's can shoulder-laser ejected pilots.

>I was just pretending!
Jaxon Parker
Apex >not a buggy mess like PUBG >not made for children like Fortnite >free, unlike COD Blackout >every major content creator was paid to shill it for weeks
Titanfall 2 >original Titanfall sold well initially due to hype but failed to maintain more than a niche audience. Interest in a sequel was fairly limited >full priced title >released shortly after Battlefield 1, a superior game in the same genre >released a week before COD >lauded mostly for its campaign when the first game didn't even have one and nobody cared
Austin Bailey
Prove me wrong smoothbrain
Gabriel Sullivan
The nuposters and samefag replying to you have not even played the original and possess zero experience of anything related to the game. The sequel does have interesting game modes though.
