Artists have no real appreciation for this or their own work—they're not consumers by nature, they're creators, always trying to push the boundaries and innovate.
Art isn't just the artist's intent. It's the artist's intent filtered through the means available to them at the time. Which is as it should be. Take away an artist's constraints and give them infinite means, and they often produce drivel like Death Stranding. Or think about how many genius film directors made iconic films on a limited budget, and then failed to reproduce the same success when given a larger one.
Not art, it's a game. Games are meant to be fun. Resident Evil 4 is fun, Re1, 2, and REmake are not. Simple as. Now have sex.

this, animators don't even watch or look back at their earlier work. they literally don't give a shit about it and more often than not just forget about even doing it because they're focused on the current thing and thinking about what to do next as well. i imagine its the same for lead devs.
RE1's camera and controls can be replaced. The atmospheric work can't. If the "remakes" had anything resembling the strong atmospheres of RE1/2/3/4 I would have no problem with them.

Resident Evil 2 is not art. It’s a game that gets little conversation. It’s a survival game where the survival is easy, and a horror game that can’t frighten you. Awful Gameplay and limited control scheme is the cherry on top of the shit sundae, it just happens to be what everyone notices first. You can try to make some shitty contrary argument about limitations being good for art, but you need a piece of art that’s good to prove your point and it’s not RE2.
