What's so horrible about the d-pad?
What's so horrible about the d-pad?
I honestly don't know, it worked just fine
because it isn't a d-pad, it's just a flat stick
A lot of times it will mess up and give you the wrong input. If you press up, the input is right, that sort of thing.
I can't count the number of times I ended up empty-handed in Dark Souls because of that fucking d-pad.
They're really inaccurate and prone to defects. My original controller could never press dpad up, I had to buy a new one when I couldn't perform a required action in GOW2 and got stuck in the game.
The asymmetrical placement of the analogs is retarded.
It's OK if you use it for minor shit like selecting stuff from a 4 slot inventory, but using it for movement is absolute cancer since it's unprecise as fuck and will very, very often give you inputs you didn't want.
It's really really mushy and cheap. I recently got my hands on a 360 and controller, and I was honestly shocked at how bad the dpad felt. The rest of the controller is fantastic though.
This
Yeah, the PS3 controller was a lot better for anything sidescrolling, or any fighters, purely because of its nonshit dpad where you can press a direction reliably.
>hit's it's own walls
>diagonals fuck up because of this
>flat
>unprecise as fuck
xbox original did this so much better than the 360 ever did. This was the one console that made me start using ps1 controllers on every platform.
t. never actually used one
baby hands faggot
YEAH BUT, THE XBOX ONE DPAD IS SOOOOOOO GOOD
>push direction
>register adjacent direction
Then they released the fucking transforming dpad that did absolutely nothing to address the issue.
>reinvent controller mid cycle
>still inferior to dpads from 15 years ago
Yeah that was a baffling time.
Isn't it technically still an analog control and not an actual dpad? Which is why it was so imprecise since it was just a stick and not 4 inputs.
between this and the meatgrinder dualfuck controller, you know my position.
no, it's very much 4 contacts underneath there, the problem is the thing pivots so far below the surface of the d-pad because the cheap buttfuckers wanted to put everything on one PCB that you move it around like a joystick instead of needing to press down on where the contact is under.
So for example you try to do a quarter circle motion in a fighting game and it's damn near guaranteed that the sliding from bottom to forward will cause you to push the thing forward and register an up as well.
For comparison the DS3 has two separate boards, one for the joysticks that's down low, and another on top for the buttons that sits right under the face of the d-pad so the pivot height is barely more than it sticks out of the controller. This also means the face buttons don't need to be half an inch deep like the 360 controller.
>he doesn’t use claw grip on controller
Never gonna make it
Considering the primary hand placement of most games is left hand on the analog stick, right hand on buttons, Xbox and Nintendo have better ergonomics. Considering everytime I bring this up on Zig Forums, retards argue with me, I'll explain. Good ergonomics mean you're engaging as few muscles as possible, or you're engaging them for as short of a time as possible. Your thumbs naturally rest on the upper part of the face of a controller, i.e. where the left analog stick is and the right face buttons are. If you're thumbs are on both analog sticks of a Playstation controller, it'd be poor ergonomics. That suboptimal hand placement is used for shooters on Nintendo and Microsoft controllers but who the fuck plays shooters on console? If this seems pointless to you, it's because you're a child and don't earn 200k+ a year with your hand skills.
It was mushy garbage. And I say this as someone who prefers asymmetrical sticks
Why write all this when your primary hand placement is on your bull's dick
To explain that one controller layout is objectively better. Doesn't really matter because adults don't game for long enough for it to really be a problem and the primary target audience of children will just stick to what they're used to. But if you want to feel superior then don't use a Playstation controller
Thanks for the good explanation. I loved my 360 controller except for the shit dpad.
Imprecise, basically a badly designed stick
Better question: Is the new one better?
It's not even out tho
XONE is way too clicky
dualshock grinds your fingers
X360 is imprecise
Is there any good d-pad?
It would be fine if it wasnt one solid piece.
DS3 is perfection
>Considering the primary hand placement of most games is left hand on the analog stick, right hand on buttons
most 3D games you move and turn the camera at the same time
most 2D games you use the d-pad and buttons at the same time
asymmetrical layout is for what, 3D platformers? they barely exist anymore.
Yeah, when it wants to work, I had 3 of those fucking controllers and the three of those d-pads are nigh unusable.
I've had the one Xbox one controller for 4-5 years, my d-pad has always worked and the only problem with it was a sticky A button which was a quick fix.
Yes.
