Star Fox is a weird position
It has a lot of story material for a Nintendo game yes but Miyamoto seems to be content with keeping the original story rehashed and it kinda makes it look like he thinks Star Fox getting too much story is a problem so I think that'd get mandated unless Star Link proves me wrong
Also, Nintendo alone doesn't see what goes on with Kirby
HAL does it as well, it's part of the reason why Kirby wasn't in Skylanders
Having an additional company get involved would've made the licensing deal more complicated
