It seems to be a continuation of Deen HIgurashi considering the original OP plays at the end of the first episode

It's a sequel yes, it doesn't start at the end of chapter 8 though, from Rika's perspective it starts a few years after.

Wrong. Ryukishi07 has full creative control of the new anime, they were just trying to bait people into believing it was a remake of the DEEN anime in episode 1. It's a sequel.

The anime mostly follows the same beats, it just leaves a fuckton of little details that were in the visual novels out. A lot of fags will tell you it's the absolute worst thing ever, but it's not. The visual novels are better but the hateboner against the DEEN adaptation is mostly irrational.

Umineko is a different story. Avoid that anime at all costs

...where they literally use the song from the old anime as the big start. What part don't you understand about that? Ryukishi07 was also involved with the DEEN stuff.

Yeah, considering that the Bike and Car was left alone, they probably got intercepted by someone before Takano could kill Tomitake I'm calling it was most likely due to Rika

Didn't even know there's a new anime, but I am not a fan of the character artist/designs.

You see Rena stalking them after the watanagashi festival and she goes deadpan quiet when mion/keiichi jokingly say tomitake must be a special agent or spy, I think Rena killed one or both of them

oooh, that might be right. Considering that this arc has been a little heavy on making Rena look suspicious, I wouldn't doubt that she could be the culprit behind their murders.

Rena had some flashbacks of previous loops, Rika caught on to that and applying what she learned from the past about trusting her friends she told her everything to gain her help.

The animation studio's most well known works to date have been ecchi porn animes. They must just be used to drawing resting cat faces. Thankfully they seem to drop the cat faces when serious/tense moments happen
