More breastfeeding. Specifically as a fail state where the monster drains you dry.
This is a malarkey thread
With bullets. One dev at a time.
Let me settle this:
Make games scary. Walking and collecting notes with spooky background noises does not equal a horror game. Any attempts to shove muh plot down your throat also ruin the experience. Make monsters extremely powerful but have some reliable yet situational ways to fight back, while relying on running and hiding sometimes. Occasional scripted segments can go a long way, as can jump cares, but overusing them will ruin a game.
>Killings start
>Every dev afraid to touch genre
Sounds like you just killed it
Tank controls, hiding from monsters for extended periods of time, repetition and jump scares.
Agreed. Jump scares can be good but should be used very sparingly
How do we improve hiding mechanics specifically?
It’s something you’d do for real if a monster attacks so it should be an option but “complete minigame to make monster go away” sucks ass
I don't think there's a ton you can really do with it except give the player more hiding options. Really these games just need to not have that be the ONLY option for every monster encounter.
If I was really being chased by a monster I;d try to hide in a fucking cabinet or crawl under a bed to get away. I think these games would be better if the more realistic hiding spots could be used in game
Make the monsters rape you. Pregnancy mechanic.
Would that really fool it though? Couldn't it smell you potentially?
Depends on the monster I’d think
You meant you wouldn't try to hide in those obvious places right? I'd like hiding spots being something like climbing a tree, maybe some claustrophobic places that would still feel scary. Indoors have very little viable hiding options so I much prefer the stealth game approach of having to move and stay out of the enemy line of sight.
Depending on the monster. then you have to try and crawl away from the monster in a tiny crawlspace or ventilation shaft while it chews on your legs and you scream like a bitch. What's wrong with that?
I think a big issue is the setting. Most games just take place in a creepy house/asylum and that's it. Any settings you guys would like to see?
The protag should always be a cute Asian female who's naked. The more vulnerable she is the higher the tension.
I meant if you have no way to get outside. Most horror games are pretty enclosed for this reason. You're right though, a game that lets you run from the monster and climb trees would be scary as fuck if the monster was smart and could still get you
I actually love Creepy House
Spooky Mountain was pretty good though
It's interesting that fear and arousal are somehow linked emotions, still playing RE with nude mods just doesn't feel right.
Should be paired with haptic feedback. When the monster gets close the anal cone gets shoved further up
spooky asylum settings could be amazing if done right. Outlast did an ok job. The problem with horror games is the gameplay
Horror is a tricky one since the best horror is always going to be something you haven't seen before. The more exposure you have to any specific flavor of horror the less it's going to affect you. Trying to directly ape other horror games is always the fastest way to lose any actual impact since people will have already experienced anything you use.
Basically just try out some new shit and see what works. If it gets scares, then it's good. Either that or copy a movie or a book or something that just hasn't been done in a game before. It worked out incredibly well for Silent Hill.
This has nothing to do with anything I just wanna brag
The absolute best hide and seek spot I ever found was dead center in the middle of a room. We were moving out of the house in question and after all the furniture got moved out we decided to have a bunch of friends over and play hide and seek in the dark. No one found me. I just crouched down in the middle of the room and made myself as small as possible. There were no windows so it was dark as shit. People came through the room like 20+ times but they all felt along the walls to find their way and since I stayed very quiet they thought the room was empty.
I’m a fucking genius.
oddly enough, horror is the last genre in need of fixing
reverse horror game where you're the monster
I actually think Fatal Frame hits the sweetspot with this. Slightly flirty outfits.
I think the link is probably the suspension bridge effect—your heart beats faster, your brain gets confused about why.
Horror with dark souls multiplayer where other player silently invade your game and are the monster.
Sounds fun actually. Gotta make me actually scary though no meme shit.
Having to creep around and get close to blind enemies can be pretty good
Yeah, it can be hard to justify from a lore perspective though
Yeah I mentioned this earlier but it’s a bit weird that Miku decided to put on a choker and leather miniskirt to go look for her brother.
Phasmophobia has been one of the few horror games recently to do it right but if you're not a pussy you get desensitized to it really fast and it's way too janky to ever really improve past what it already is.
Airport
>it's a sloppy metroidvania
What a disappointment.
>This horror game that every E-Celeb is playing is the best horror game to do it right guys! I know because Markiplier said so!
Phasmophobia doesn't do what it's trying to do very well at all.
Honestly a big creepy mansion just hits all the right spots in a horror setting, you can include almost every related biome in there. Basement, attic, graveyard etc. The atmosphere is just unmatched.
