Do you guys like Etrian Odyssey?

I’m thinking about buying Etrian Odyssey V but I see so little about the series online. What do you guys think of it?

I love it. V is awesome, one of the best games in the series. Go look it up on the 3DS store and you should find a demo. If you decide to buy the game you can continue using the data from the demo, so give that a whirl.

V is my 2nd favorite in the series. Solid game to start with.

is there a new one coming out for the switch?

i have etrian odyssey 4. i like the idea of the game a lot with the dungeon crawling/drawing your maps and the combat is fine but i always burn out by the second dungeon. i feel like the series is dead now, dunno how it would work on anything but a DS

I liked them but I never bother with the post game. I have yet to finish EO1 or even start EO5

It's comfy AF if Persona Q is any indication. I never really liked the lack of story though, but there's also a EO series with some plot if you like.
EO, despite having pretty much every entry come to the west, is obscure as all fuck here. Doesn't helps that it's on a dead console. Still, great game if you like crawlers.

I just downloaded the demo. I want the physical version because I love physical for DS but it’s so expensive wtf!

Again: The series is niche as all hell.
It's obviously gonna be expensive. If you're a buyfag, just get the digital version, it's really unlikely that you'll find then physical one for cheap unless some clueless parent is selling his weeb son's game collection or something.

good dungeon crawlers
weebshit character portraits are completely out of place though

Welcome to Atlus pricing.

At least most of them are available digital on 3DS. I dunno how the fuck I'm ever gonna play 3 though.

Probably my favourite series ever, and V is a great entry. Be prepared to get your ass kicked, though. The games are not easy. Also, unlike most games their difficulty is balanced around the hardest difficulty so they feel perfectly fair while still being hard as fuck.

I fucking love these games
The only one I can really dislike is the original 2 on DS because it has so many bugs and glitches. Even then it's still enjoyable.

not quite as hard as some in the genre but definitely not easy and its cute so thats a plus

EOV is pretty divisive but I think it's a decent starting point, 4 is probably better but it's kinda weird that these 2 are pretty different from the rest of the series. EOU1 on classic mode is also acceptable although it will probably tear you to shreds until you get the hang of how to build a decent team

Hope you like traveling, because your best bet is to find some game store that isn't GameStop or Play n Trade and hope whoever's in charge of pricing things hasn't looked at Amazon. I've had some luck with this in Texas, I scooped up a copy of 3 for about $40 from some place.
Having to spend at least two hours to reach a city that actually has game stores can be a pain in the butt, though.

I havent played it but I'm sure the music is fantastic because its Yuzo Koshiro. I like first person dungeon Crawler games too. I should give it a shot sometime. Aren't there a ton of entries? Safe to just start with the first?

I have played the series so let me assure you that the soundtracks are gorgeous.
>Aren't there a ton of entries? Safe to just start with the first?
So we've got seven games that matter. The very first game is fine, but it's not for pussies. Also playing later games before the first makes it harder to go back to it because of the slower pace and various convenience changes. It's pretty jarring to replay it after getting so used to being able to sidestep only to remember that sidestepping isn't a thing in 1.

laughs in dragon quest
I remember I had a hard time finding this trilogy in 2011. And with these types of games a lot of the owners are collectors. Welcome to the world of conservative Japanese publishers.

These games have a story right? I remember playing the first one but lack of story turned me off.

Yes but it's minimal, and there is no continuity between games

I lied to you, there's 8 games that matter. It's hard to remember Nexus. Anyway, have a sampling of the music.

Emulate or hack your 3ds.

Anyone ever fix the script of 5? Stupid shit like how they basically ruined the reveal of the planet not being Earth with the localization.

Unfortunately the only fix for that is playing the JP version using the Japanese you learned

VI WHEN AAAAAAAAAA

>it's been two years since they teased the next entry
>they haven't said anything since

We've still got something like a year and a half until we hear anything if they follow the timeline they used for Persona 5.

All the indie stores around here closed down. For some reason Japanese copies of 3 seem to go for like $30-40 (10-20 game, 20 shipping). Been learning moonrunes so maybe I should get that and just hold onto it for a few years until I can read it.
Eh I just got those on mobile. DQ4-6 are like the only games where the phone port actually seems good.

>physical copies
you shoulda thought of that years ago. right now 3 goes for 150~ on ebay
