Who would have thought it'd be big?

I honestly thought it would flop a la Dreamcast, but yet for some reason it did not, and I cannot for the life of my figure out why.
you're putting your own preferences over others
A good time to look back and laugh at neogaf.

No it's not that. I just didn't think it would hold up against the competition. I mean, I own one. I actually bought one thinking that I was wrong, but no, it's exactly what I thought it was going to be–it's flimsy, small, low powered, games are..I dunno "meh," and just not even in the same class as other consoles. Basically everything that killed the Dreamcast (in a sense) only it didn't. C'mon, you've got to admit that it's pretty unbelievable that the Switch is as popular as it is..
you are doing exactly what you said you aren't - you're putting your own biases and preferences as a measure
I was closing the bar at work and this song was playing. I had never heard it at work before and had to take a pause and try and remember what trailer I had heard it in before.
>4 years since the Switch reveal
>Blew its load in the first two years
>Been nothing worthwhile but Wii U ports
>No new Mario Kart because 8D is still selling
>Smash is boring as all fuck and is being kept alive by "oMg WhO wIlL gEt In NeXt??" while people DL the DLC and play a few matches before putting the game back down
>Worst Pokemon entry yet, sold extremely well so GameFreak know they can get away with being even more lazy
>35th Anniversary of their most popular IP is 3 ROMs that run like shit asides Galaxy while their fans source ported 64 to run natively
>Selling like hotcakes, Nintendo isn't being encouraged at all to do better
How did it come to this?
Big?
Still can’t even do 720p and 20fps without drops on first party games
I love Nintendo and hopefully their next console is amazing, after all they do make mistakes here and there, but how are you going to tell me that this thing isn't flimsy and lacks power man?
What alternatives are more powerful?
Doesn't it have more 60fps titles than PS4?
>Worst Pokemon entry yet, sold extremely well so GameFreak know they can get away with being even more lazy
YOU TAKE POKEMON MOON AND POKEMON SUN
YOU TAKE EVERYTHING THAT SEEMS LIKE FUN
YOU SCREW IT ALL UP AND THEN YOU'RE DONE
RADDA RADDA RADDA, RADDA RADDA
This was the Nintendo gen that made me just build a PC because I was tired of their shit.
In a way it's been fucking great because I've been replaying Nintendo's good games with enhancements.
>Release Xenoblade Chronicles DE
>Perfect chance to release a legitimately great version of a great game
>Releases to 30FPS with dips and sub 720p resolution
>it's still gonna fail, this time for sure!!!
first off, unless you're only born recently, most successful consoles aren't the most powerful of their lot
second, you're looking at price and existing technology
I loved it since I saw the first trailer. It was somehow perfect. I never bought one because I'm poor but I like it to this day.

Not him, but the issue is that they've combined console and handheld to a point that turns some people off.
Before this gen, you had your GB(A), DS and 3DS if you wanted portable games that were made for portable systems and optimized for them and a home console for couch play which offered more visually impressive games that (usually) ran nicer.
Now you have a single underpowered device that's like owning a Wii U again except it has a couple of new games, isn't compatible with the old ones and the old ones are still full price. As a handheld, it's a technical marvel but when you've got big titles like XBCDE and XBC2 running at sub 30 FPS and sub 720p, artistic titles like Yoshi's Crafted World that run at poor resolutions and games like BoTW that as someone who has both a Switch and a PC, plays so much better at a solid 60FPS it's not funny the console is a bit of a turn off.
see you sound like someone who never grew up in the PS1 vs Saturn era
What does that have to do with my post at all?
Success has nothing to do with what I was posting about.
My point is that you're focused much on power, not realizing that at the end of the day, it isn't much of a big thing.
>Buy a Wii
>It's backwards compatible with GCN
>Buy a Wii U
>It's backwards compatible with Wii
>Buy a GBA
>It's backwards compatible with GB(C)
>Buy a DS
>It's backwards compatible with GBA
>Buy a 3DS
>It's backwards compatible with DS
>Nintendo merges their gaming market into one retarded platform that neither optimized for being a handheld or a home console
>It's backwards compatible with nothing
It might surprise you, but some people want to play videogames and decent framerates and nice visuals. There's a reason modern games don't still look like N64 games and run like them too.
buy the ports goy
Yeah, and you realize later on that unless you play on PC, it's usually not achievable. Again, go look at PS1vsSaturn, or PS1vsXboxvsGC, or hell PS3vs360vsWii.
>it's usually not achievable
What's not achievable about Nintendo sticking to their practice of releasing both a handheld console for games you'd want to play on the go and a home console for games you'd want to play at home at nice framerates and resolutions?
you forgot :
>garbage joycon drift
>garbage audio jack, do not play with the audio jack in docked mode, you'll regret it.
>garbage bottom tier online but they make you pay for it even though they don't host anything but matchmaking servers that were free to access for the past 13 years.
>first party competitive games have bottom of the barrel tier input latency, 80ms for Splatoon 2(40 in the first game) and Ultimate has more latency offline(6 frames/100ms) than you get by playing gamecube games online with Dolphin.
Why do third parties treat the Switch with contempt?
Stop focusing on Western devs.
that's clearly not working anymore, and the handhelds have been more successful
stop pretending, since the Wii their consoles have been trash tier performance wise compared to the competition.
The only thing that saves them are the low cost and gimmicks.
Still see copelets convinced it's failed.
