dahlia's design is fine. The model is glitched out in that image. Pic related is how the character actually looks in the game. The spine is not nearly as bent, and the stomach is not protruding outwards

The reason why western devs don't make sexy women is because it makes the soi men (not women) angry.
Since soicuks are a large consumer of western vidya, they have to appease them. Women actually like playing as cute an sexy characters for the same reason men like playing big hansome buff dudes.

Worked on me at the time. Already thought the hands and feet were a bit much (no issues with the busty ice girl aesthetic, I dig that) but the L-spine was where I drew the line. I'm glad the character designer actually had more sense than that.

Final Fantasy is more alive post-ARR than it was pre-ARR. The FF games had been getting progressively further and further away from being FF after FFIX. While I've played indy JRPGs that are technically worse (Lightning Warrior Raidy, Dieselmine games, etc.), FFXIII is possibly my least favorite game of all time because it represents everything that a JRPG shouldn't be while banking off of the name of the crown jewel of JRPGs: the characters are horrible and unlikable, the setting is flat, the level design is a series of corridors, and the player isn't given anything resembling freedom until right before the final boss. It keeps the worst element of JRPGs, though, that being the stupid melodrama.

ARR obviously doesn't follow the gameplay formula, but it hits the atmosphere pretty well, and (contrary to what the contrarians on Zig Forums would tell you) the gameplay is great in its own right.
