Pretty much, reviews for anything you've already seen should be used to open up about different opinions of something and expand on what you think of it, not to circlejerk about how smart someone is.

There's nothing to say about Odyssey. It forgoes pure platforming for a treasure hunt format over everything. 3D Marios have always been collect-a-thons, but Odyssey has so many fucking collectibles that they feel completely worthless, especially when the game only makes you collect 1/8th of them to see the credits. They took it way too far and overall makes the game feel like an unrewarding, tedious slog. 64 and Sunshine were more a series of mini-challenges with a reward waiting at the end, rather than Odyssey's 'ground pound this bump in the ground for a moon x900'-tier design

Because he is the most eloquent and balanced videogame enthusiast that voices his opinions on the internet.

He takes in account that videogames have a % of value that can be measured with objective parameters while there will always be a part of them that is more difficult to tear from individual preferences and inclinations. Same with how art depends both on the artist and the audience that enjoys and percieves the art, and considers this to evaluate the merits of a videogame.

All of this with well curated writing, review format experimentation and humility.

This paraphrasing is a strawmanning his actual opinion. He personally isn't inclined towards aiming for realism in graphics because it consumes lots of resources, doesn't necessarily add much to the game and risks looking dated in the long run.
But he liked the game and this is a rather small part of his qualms with it.
