Rpg has melee weapons

>rpg has melee weapons
>no spear
>no spear skill trees

Why do games do this?

Because spears are not practical to carry around unlike swords or even maces.

Laziness. You can give swords, maces and axes relatively same animations for the most part, but spears handle very differently and need many extra animations.

>Because spears are not practical to carry around unlike swords or even maces
They can act as a walking stick
>You can give swords, maces and axes relatively same animations for the most part, but spears handle very differently and need many extra animations
That's believable. Still a damn shame.

Gungir looking sick in this one.

They are common in army. Swords were way more common outside war situations. RPGs are not about wars, its more about exploration. Bringing a spear into a dungeon is retarded idea.
Then you lose all advantage of a spear. No one will use 2 meter long walking stick. Estoc or rapier would be better.

name 43 games.

Y'all niggas wanna see some spear skills? Play Legend of Dragoon. Lavitz/Albert style on niggas with their GUST OF WIND... DANCE!

>Then you lose all advantage of a spear. No one will use 2 meter long walking stick
A) I said a walking stick, not a cane. Walking sticks and hiking poles can be quite long.
B) Short spears existed you dingus

Short spear is 6-8 feet long (180+ cm). It is inpractical for exploration or live in the city. Thats the main weakness of the pear afterall.
If spears were practical there would be 0 reasons swords to exists.

>If spears were practical there would be 0 reasons swords to exists.
You are very historically ignorant, my friend.

What are some good spear games? All I can think of right now is Nioh 2
Whats even more satisfying are harpoons. Best T weapon in TTT

>What are some good spear games?
Mountain Blade.

polearms get shafted because the animations are different and devs are lazy

going back to take a look at any of those animations for most of the later tier additions theyre actually quite cool & remarkable

I mean fucking Morrowind had them. Can't be THAT hard.

and they got rid of them as their games improved in animation quality, having one set of weapons you devote time to isn't efficient for devs concerned with maximizing profit and not making a game they love.

>game doesn't have any polearms
>game has them but the moves have no weight and it's all stupid swishwooshwoosh animations

Because homo sticks are lame.

Nioh 1/2 has some really fucking fun spear movesets with all the pokes and sweeps and spins and polevaults you could ask for

With Viking conquest, yes. Or a mod that gives the same buffs. Otherwise stick to literally anything else.

It hurts.

I need a spear in Monster Hunter.

No, Lance and Glaive don't count.

Because weapons that can slash make for easier melee combat. Spears mostly stab and if they have slash techniques they're hindered by the fact that the blade doesn't take up most of the swing space.

Basically, swords arc in a big ole hitbox which is perfect for mindless melee combat.
Spears implement distance and would be stupid with too many slash attacks; stabing would require aiming and would feel impractical when facing multiple opponents which is often a big part of games with melee.

Spears are however, superior for 2d games with melee combat.

>spear is just +5 damage to larger enemies
are there any combat systems that arent just rock paper scissors?

Spears can slash, user, depending on the spearhead. I know I'd much rather have a spear when facing multiple opponents anyways.

>Game has spears
>It's all pokes
I wish there were more games that treated spears/polearms like the IG from MH or dragoon from FF.

Realismfags are legit some of the stupidest motherfuckers around.

Especially when they're wrong.

>when a spear multiclasses with a club

Yes spears would need their own animations which is one pain in the ass
but the bigger issue is recreating the distancing power of a spear.
swords and axes get away with clipping through everything but spears have to push and poke not just let in enemy clip into and take some damage.
Like in mount and blade warband spear kinds work but once you get past the first thrust you can magically glide past the shaft and start hacking away.

What really gets me is they're the epitome of the dunning-kruger effect. They think that knowing a basic fact makes them a expert and that can't even fathom anyone else could have possibly also figured out this basic fact, despite the fact they almost assuredly read that fact on a popular website.
