I can't bring myself to love DMC5. The gameplay is good whenever V's effect-heavy combat isn't making my computer shit itself, but the writing is terrible and the visual design is tainted by DmC's hideous urban fantasy dreck, making it aggressively unpleasant to look at. The fact that they used two different people to model identical twins also drives me crazy.

The writing is not good, Dante is a jobber that comes off like a joyless asshole whenever he isn't talking to a boss, Nero is even bitchier than he was in 4, Lady and Trish are non-characters, and Nico is terrible in every conceivable way while also being one of the most prominent characters. The plot itself is also ridiculous, but outside of 3's surprisingly tight script, that's nothing new.

He only jobs to Urizen and Vergil (at first). Also, why do you think he's so joyless? He just found his brother's back and causing more mayhem. He's fucking tired of his bullshit. Besides, he only acts that way when he's by himself or with Urizen. Anywhere else, where he's surrounded by Nero, Nico, Lady, or Trish, he's his usual smartass self. It's a shield, really.

For good reason. He let Yamato get stolen from him, which allowed Urizen to gain enough power to annihilate the whole city. He feels responsible and wants to redeem himself, but Dante won't let him (out of concern). He's frustrated that the guy he looks up to doesn't think he's capable enough to handle such a big task. That's what Nero's whole journey is about: being able to prove that he is capable of taking care of the "big boy" job and worthy of the responsibility.

I partially agree here. They're just sort of in the background as fan service and to give a couple important talks to V and Nero. They should've been in the story a little more.

Straight up disagree. The brother/sister dynamic between her and Nero is charming and fresh. None of the other characters have a relationship quite like the two of them.

It doesn't look like DmC to me. Sorry. There's not enough orange and blue or enough of those ugly, grey UE3 textures to the environments. It looks more like a souped up version of DMC3 with more RE sprinkled in it, to me.

Which is the problem. He doesn't need to be wacky pizza man, but being cool and collected with a sense of humor is sort of central to his character, turning him into a sad clown that cracks under pressure and acts like an unreasonable dick is wrong. As for Nero, he earned being treated like a liability when he went into battle with an arm missing, and he whined like a fucking brat about it too. I'm all for a hero's journey, but don't take away development to make it work. Hell, don't regress the character to the point where they're snottier than they were when they started

Don't be obtuse, texture quality has no bearing on art direction. Art direction, since you're a fucking idiot, is the general look a game has. Characters, enemies, locations, their appearance is determined by the art direction, and Donte's grimy chav fingerprints are all over this, whether it's the weak enemy designs or the shitty state of the main characters' outfits.
