People love brands and they allow them to dictate their life if they really want to because it gives them a sense of purpose and something to get excited over. This has been going on for the past 100 years. Someone famous endorses something/gives it a seal of approval then other people go "well if he likes it or thinks its pretty cool then I'll get one". Its that simple. Marketing people are desperate to be able to cut through the noise and people are way more segmented now. So they need to pay someone else who will cut through the noise and announce it on social media that they bought or liked something. Because then they know it will directly reach their target audience.
