I'm about to preorder the G2. What am I in for? Is VR worth the price now? I imagine myself discovering a new world of gaming. New exciting ways of experiencing porn and some fun socializing that just isn't fun on a flat screen.

(Or is it still mainly tech demos and it's gonna collect dust after two weeks?)

disgusting shill thread

>headsets are supposed to be arriving early november
>still no actual reviews
it's a scam

VR is worth it. Pavlov has been some of the most fun I've experienced in vidya lately. VR porn is boring.

FUCK ME, why can't they just release an actual wireless VR headset that isn't Facebook cancer?

For one, if it's standalone it needs games.
Who else is going to just suddenly have a large library of games like the quest off the bat, and who would invest in big games to start competing with it?
For two, there is that 450$ headset supposedly coming next year that'll have a 50$ add on to connect your pc wirelessly, though who knows how that will run even if legit.

Yeah, I'm sure it's worth paying a shill minimum wage to make threads that get less than 150 replies before dying.
I can see why you think OP's wording is stiff and suspicious though.

>preordering anything
>buying anything from a company that isn't exactly known to make quality hardware
ishygddt

>VR porn is boring
Wouldn't say it's boring but it's tedious and you might as well have a wank without the headset/controllers. Not worth the effort.

If they don't pull a "Vive Cosmos" - should be a great headset. I'd hold out for some reviews though..

>Is VR worth the price now?
There are no zero-compromises HMDs on the market. I refuse to buy in until they sort it out.

It is tedious with cabled headset, but Quest2 makes it very easy

>No top sensor
Is HP dumb? Even the Rift S got this right

That doesn't matter.
Quest has perfect tracking with 4 cameras, while Cosmos with 6 is still hot garbage, even 1 year after release. Software makes the tracking.

>That doesn't matter
It literally does, you can't program out dead zones, which the quest has over your head for throwing and swinging in certain ways. The Rift S + a bottom sensor would be the perfect headset

>3dpd vr porn
kill yourself

You certainly can. If you ever used Quest of Rift S you'd know there's zero issues with swinging above your head, storing or retrieving items from behind your back, shooting bows etc. It just works.
Here's a good example - you can draw a circle 360' all around your head, way out of cameras fov

Op literally says is it still just for tech demos and to collect dust.

Would buy the Quest 2 in a heartbeat for the price and specs. I don't even care the facebook login. But I have a good PC with the RTX 3080, etc. and it feels like a waste not buying PCVR.

Quest2 can do PCVR, though it's not as good as G2/Index would be.

It actually benefits the most from a good system because it has processing overhead to compress the image.
The main reason anyone should get a Quest 2 is for wireless PC VR which no other current year headset can do so far.

Wait 5-10 years
Still not enough games, triple A are just starting to seriously invest in VR now
The technology is also advancing really fast and each headset seems to have huge pros and cons
- Index has finger tracking/advanced controller
- Oculus has wireless
- HP has highest resolution and less motion sickness etc..

Each needs to align on the competition, it can takes some time.

Quest 2 can do insanely good wireless PCVR. Alyx looks better on the Q2 than the Index.

>5-10 years to wait for more games
There are plenty of fun games in VR right now.

Isn't compression and latency an issue with the Oculus Link (USB)?

Wait for the jailbreak.

Rythym games suffer slightly, but no perceived difference in Alyx. I had settings maxed out on both sides with a 2080ti doing SS on the PC side and Sidequest/VD settings pushed as far as they could go without stuttering.

Half Life Alyx and Boneworks are the most complete VR experiences and Beat Saber is THE quintessential VR game to have
Talos Principle VR also works surprisingly well so if you haven't played that on desktop then I HIGHLY recommend picking that one up
Blade & Sorcery is basically a tech demo but the modding scene for it is big enough to keep it interesting and fun
and please for the love of god do NOT buy No Man's Sky for the sole purpose of playing in VR, it's hot fucking garbage in VR at the moment
even at the highest graphics settings the textures are super low res, there's tons of pop-in, and dizzying amounts of reprojection unless you're on a low refresh rate like 80Hz or 90Hz

>rythym games
Lmao just pirate the native version of Beat Saber, which also has mods.
Might be a problem for competitive games though, but most people posting here probably aren't that competitive and probably get more latency on their monitors.
