Spend all your time learning how to code
you mean to tell me people judge a book by it's cover? No way
Dark souls?
I think he means Helltaker
that's one of many
So don't make a game that looks like shit.
Anyone over 10 years of age should know full well that presentation is a huge part of selling something to someone. And just looking nice in general makes things more inviting and making you want to spend time with them.
Look at Salt and Sanctuary, for example. For all of its virtues I'll never touch that game because it's ugly as sin. Petty, but that's people for you.
in a survey, 90% of surveyed participants chose to eat a piece of chocolate that tasted like shit over a piece of shit that tasted like chocolate
>do some shitty amateur coding
>put out pixelshit indie game #9001
>get beat by games that look much better and are actually fun to play
>NOOOO MY GENIUS IS UNRECOGNIZED HOW DARE YOU PLEBS PLAY THOSE SHIT GAMES
Entitled children will always think they're God's gift to the world for doing less than the bare minimum, and that the world should bend over backwards for them.
I bet OP hasn't even learned to code.
Most games made by artists are walking sims or the pixelshit you complain about. They can make their game look pretty but they're always limited in what they can do since they can't code anything beyond the basics without getting into spaghetti territory.
>Spend all your time learning how to code
>Work together with artist
>Put out well made game that looks amazing
>???
Post your game. This reeks of Dunning-Kruger.
Why would you ever want to make a videogame, let alone make one to sell?
Making videogames is much harder and less fun than playing even a mediocre videogame; and making videogames doesn't entitle you to remuneration, so if you're in it to make money you're better off making some other piece of software.
If I'm gonna spend hours looking at something, it better look nice.
it's the same reason for why you've posted the cute anime girl on the OP
You're that bitch tits dev who made ikenfell, aren't you?
>spend all your time learning how to code
>since you clearly care about your game and are trying to sell it, hire an actual artist to work on it and give them a reasonable split of the profits
>have a game that both functions and looks good
>don't have to come to Zig Forums and whine about your own failures
if you're going to put out a product for other people to consume, why would you not try to make it as good as possible? why leave shitty programmer art in?
You forgot your tripcode yandev.
You can commission art for your game.
it's not fair bros..
Game dev here. Sorry you don't find it fun, I find it far more fun than playing video games.
That's coomers though.
Compare that to Owlboy, a game with amazing graphics but no coomer appeal. I'd be surprised if that game charted for more than 5 days despite the hype.
>spend all your time learning how to code
>realise graphical fidelity doesn't matter
>use your limited artistic ability to create a janky but cohesive and original art style
>visual harmony attracts customers
>Artist puts together something coded with duct tape and glue
>Tops the Steam charts for months
Undertale??
Damn I wanna argue with you because I love Undertale but Toby himself admitted half the game is a giant switch statement
Is this the same small indie dev that has been spamming threads for the past week?
>Artist
by that you mean musician, right?
Cry more. I will pirate your game now too.
this is more than likely the anti-indie dev who loathes the fact that dev threads appear on Zig Forums, he's been spamming for a while. Just ignore and talk about gamedev, it breaks him mentally
>Game made by literally one dude using stock Unity assets
>#1 selling game on Steam and has earned millions of dollars
>make game for 7 years
>great story wise, good gameplay wise
>absolutely no marketing
>game flops
>dev goes mentally insane on twitter in real time
name?
What game?
he did such a poor job marketing it that no one even knows the name of his game. in fact he did so bad at marketing that I forgot his name.
>bugbrain """coder""" copy & pastes his way through every problem without why anything works
>copies game design elements without know what makes them good
>grabs assets from the unity asset store
>"well made" replica of games that already exist doesn't sell because anyone could just get the same gameplay with better assets from a big studio
>hobbyist that understands what makes gameplay elements appealing and what aesthetics are appealing puts out a small novel game around a few elements they enjoy
>it tops the charts because executing a novel concept well is all you need to do to grab attention
