Was it one of the worst home console games released in the 6th generation or was it just average ?

It's true that they reused Heroes engine and models, but they did create a new bloom lighting system to make up for their laziness.
This was the only game in the franchise made by Sega Studios USA, a very short lived branch that only got to make 2 games ( Shadow and Nights Journey of Dreams ) This was not made by the 06 or Secret Rings team ( those were made in japan instead )
Better than Heroes and SA2.
Certainly more polished. It had a different lead programmer
Just average. Like skating on ice and some level objectives were ass but generally running through the levels and punching some aliens was pretty fun.
Great soundtrack too
Some pretty unique level layouts in this game
it was fun as a kid, the hate it gets is literally just because le edgy meme
First time in which switching between rails wasn't a matter of luck because of janky programming. Imagine Rail Canyon or Final Fortress's last section with this system
it still is fun. it's a shame that SEGA doesnt remake some of it's better dreamcast/gamecube era games or at least rerelease some of the lesser popular games like Shadow
It was a 4/10, as opposed to a 3/10 like the game before it. There were worse games in that gen for sure, but I can't think of any that sold nearly as much as 3D Sonic did.
It constantly gets paired with 06, but it's not nearly as bad or broken. ShTh is just mediocre/average game with annoying design choices and bad controls.
I was replaying this a few years back and it's abysmal. It's a collectathon with largely linear levels, which doesn't work at all, and it's so jank you can't even enjoy it for a casual run.
I'm still mad about the level where you gotta kill all the artificial chaos' on the Ark since 15 minutes into the fucking thing with like, one left, the game failed to load one of the corridors and I fell through the floor into an endless abyss.
average. also fuck cosmic fall in hard mode, fuck it. I ended the game with like 20 lives less because of it.
Chrisu Chan liked it so whatevs
Did you play the PS2 version ? That one is unplayable
I replayed it because Zig Forums contrarians love to paint it as underrated or even good. It's actually a horrendous game. The Sonic heroes engine really did not do this game any favors, it feels like complete shit to play over SA1 and SA2. Plus, the missions are usually awful, it's like if the entire game was Chaotix missions from heroes. The dialogue and edge people like to shit on it for are completely inoffensive compared to the gameplay.
Of all the games released on the 6th gen shadow is at least in the 60th percentile. There are hundreds if not thousands of low effort shovelware kusoge shitted out onto the ps2 specifically
Imagine comparing this with 06. You can actually go fast in this game and there's some momentum. Impressive how the game manages to run at 60fps despite the speed and the amount of things going on at once ( some downgrades were required tho, like making the drop shadows be circles instead of realistic like in Heroes )
Shadow is so fucking slippery. Notice how whenever there's a slight turn he starts drifting toward the edge of the highway instead of effortlessly staying in the center.
You can cancel all speed and stop on a dime by simply pressing the strafe button ( either Z button or R trigger )
Average game.
Spyro ETD is easily worse than this
>Panzer Dragoon homage
This was a fun stage. I also like how the earth is a 3D object here ( it was just a wallpaper in SA2 )
This. You can at least call Shadow a finished product.
Yeah, I know it's worse than the other ones but I'm not familiar with the exact differences.
CAN YOU SEE ALL OF ME
WALK INTO MY MYSTERY
Heroes and Shadow are awful on PS2 ( downgraded graphics, worse framerate and controls, imput lag, longer load times, more glitches, etc ) 06 is also worse on PS3, but the game is awful in either console, so whatever
I think people remember this stage because it's the only one that takes place during daylight. Every other stages was either nighttime, sunset, indoors or outer space
I dunno, I really enjoyed it as a kid, even for a broken mess that it is. I still have a safe file with all A ranks and sometimes I just go for a route I haven't done before (I have like 50 out of 300 something)
That was the worst mission I have ever played in my entire life. It took me 45 minutes and then I had to get it under 15 something, terrible.
its like 5-6/10
easily the best sonic game
You can easily avoid The Doom and Lost Impact tho. They are awful stages, but at least the designers had the common sense of making them optional
Well, the problem is that I chose to play and A-rank them. I brought it upon myself. Didn't enjoy it but looking back I am happy I finished them lol
