I see this new push towards single player as the same thing as their last push for open world games because they ran the numbers and those were the most popular games at the time.
Making a game that happens to be open world is great. Trying to force a game that doesn't need to be open world to be open world can lead to disaster. If they're still chasing trends like this then I can also see them telling their studios to "make an Uncharted clone" or "make something like God Of War" or some other Sony property because they always get sucked into trends and following others. A ton of their games in the past got a greenlight from only someone at the studio saying it'll be a _____ killer.
