No, because it subjected us to the single most terrible and pathetic SJW "RPG" of all time, Blundertale.

Mixed results.
Only works with physical products.

Was there even a single KS-backed game that was good? All I can think of were complete scams or terrible games like MN9 or Yooka Laylee.

I backed Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight and the Skull & Co case for Switch
So it was a net gain for me
My heart goes out to the retards who backed literally anything else

I have never backed any ks game in my life

Of games I have backed:

Bloodstained - fucking great and no regrets backing
Shemue III - fucking awful and they need a good slap for the game's design
Fear Effect Sedna - mediocre, and lets be honest, I was hoping for softcore pornographic lesbian undertone and it did not deliver
Wonderful 101 - glad it's out of Wii U prison, haven't replayed yet but will some day, would rather Platinum was focused on Bayonetta 3

So yeah, a mix of some good, some bad, some middle.

Popular game bad

Is this going to be kino?

Hollow Knight has OW-positive reviews on Steam.

good

>would rather Platinum was focused on Bayonetta 3
I think you mean the Babylon game
No wait, I meant Okami 2
No wait, I meant Dragon's Dogma 2
No wait, I meant Astral Chain 2
How many games have they alluded to producing again?

Hollow Knight was good, I don't think I was aware it was a KS game. And reminded me about Shovel Knight too.

Forgot to mention the import tax fuckup on W101 left a bitter taste in my mouth, as a brit I paid £20 to back on kickstarter than I would've to just pre-order from an in-country retailer.

This is a cardinal fucking sin, platinum and fangamer should suck a dick for this. I've not backed anything else on kickstarter since, and won't unless they promise to not offset import duties on backers.

KS ultimately exposes the general public to how rocky development is, which is something they really can't handle. They also can't handle how long development really takes and how in all likelihood your initial plan will end up changing drastically. I think IGA mentioned in his video shilling Eiyuden that the promises you make in the campaign end up being kind of annoying. Cause what is conceptually good doesn't always turn into something that works so well, but you made a promise so some form of it needs to be in there eventually.

The ratio of good to bad isn't any worse than standard game production.

Thimbleweed Park
Darkest Dungeon
Hyper Light Drifter
CrossCode
Divinity: Original Sin
Hollow Knight
Night In The Woods
Pillars Of Eternity
Shovel Knight
Undertale

These are the highest rated ones, not saying they are good or anything

I was on the fence about backing and decided not to because I was never that into Suikoden, and the kickstarter fuckup mentioned Waiting for release and reviews

STAR CITIZEN

Apparently I was wrong. I don't remember Undertale being a Kickstarter. I know there were threads about it when it went to Greenlight, but I guess that was after it was already on KS.

I think the crowdfunding was massively dwarfed by all the other conversations around it

btw, you're asking for trouble if you post about it on good terms here

Based. The problem with that shitposter was that Zig Forums actually genuinely liked Undertale when it first came out. I remember countless "goat mom" threads when the demo was released and reception was positive when it finally launched. Then it blew up and Zig Forums was forced to go full contrarian as usual.

I liked Kingmaker so much I actually backed Wrath. So long as you don't throw money at everything it works fine.

Kingdom Come
Bloodstained
Shadowrun Returns
Shantae
Banner Saga
Blasphemous
Darkest Dungeon
A Hat in Time
La-Mulana 2
Super Hot

The whole KS never lead to a good game meme is so silly these days, just people holding onto the big name blunders. Yooka Laylee wasn't even that bad it just really lacked charm and dragged on.

Yes I enjoyed Deliver Us The Moon a lot, the issue is that the credits last 40 minutes with all the kickstarter contributors being written down.

Darkest Dungeon

seems like a lot of people tend to forget that game was originally a kickstarter game.
same with hollow knight and shovel knight.

Worked out for Cyan and Myst.
That 25th anniversary book was a great investment even if it's a shoddy rip off of the real thing.

(the fan made prototype of the mass produced collector's book was made out of a real vintage RD book that was gutted and stuffed with a working microcomputer and LCD screen; more accurate to the Myst book in the game)

Should be worth a lot of money in a hundred years.

or it wasn't really a prototype for the collector's book, but I'm confident that gave Cyan the initial inspiration for the collector's book they ended up having produced.

I think people forget about it with the modestly funded true indie projects, all the blunder focus is on big name come back with huge funding. A lot of the talk is more centred on we want to rub in that someone's dream game was a failure. Or in the case of something like Bloodstained it could have been better so blow it all out of proportion.
