Kojima imagines himself as this genius pioneer auteur when in reality he's the Micheal Bay of japanese vidya directors. He's no Yoko Taro, though Kojima loves to think of himself as someone like Taro.

That's just on the surface level, tho. Death Stranding is extremely simple and heartfelt deep down.
Kojima is definately a brainlet who thinks he's an auteur, but as much as he disappears in his own ass with the story, in the end it's all for a soulful and emotionally strong little story. It's the opposite of something more shallow like TLOU2, for example, even if it's not conventionally as well written.

Being an auteur isn't necessarily a good thing, it just means one person has a lot of control over almost every aspect of something. Kojima definitely is one, and it's why his games have a lot of really dumb shit in them.
