Silent Hill 1

If you played it, did you like it? Did you understand the story? If you did grasp the plot please explain it in simple form.

the most overrated series in gaming

go fuckyourself you’re just mad you’re too dumb to solve the puzzles

Ass wipe

>dude goes on a vacay with his daughter, ends up in a town infested with the physical embodiments of darkest fears of the local cult leader's daughter, goes to hell and back just to find his missing daughter being reunited with her original form. after fighting what is essentially a twisted form of god, he is gifted a reincarnation of his daughter and manages to escape

I played it for the very first time all the way back in 1999.
I was 11 at the time. It was top spooky, outright terrifying. Resident Evil 1 and 2 really did not prepare my anus for the ride.

It is my absolute most favorite survival-horror game, ever created.
I essentially try to replay it once a year.

>Did you understand the story?
The very first time? No, not at all.
At the time I got to Nowhere, my young child brain had pretty much accepted everything to be there just to disturb you, random shit meant for mind-fuck (ofc the term hadn't even been coined yet).

However, after numerous replays both early on and especially at much more mature age, together with countless hours of lurking on SHF and such, I was indeed capable of stitching together a pretty solid idea of the entire tale. It really is a quite personal and sad story, that legit nailed the "personal demons" thing that's become a total meme later on.

>if you did grasp the plot please explain it in simple form.
Why should I do this exactly?
Do you need help understanding something?

*of the darkest fears

Dude like dude it's just a dream like Twin Peaks but instead of Laura it's Alessa lmao

Saved up when i was a kid to get a used PSX and some games. Silent Hill was one of them had no idea what it was about. Had to play it sparingly because it spooked me so bad, took me a long time to finally beat it.

They pretty much stated it clearly, 3 spells it out even plainer.
A secret cabal thought they could grow in power by summoning a demon by torturing the shit out of one of their daughters. They were basically right, but it turns out the aspect of her that reincarnated to complete the ritual had a total badass for a dad, and he banished the demon with conventional weapons and health drinks.

I liked it, but I sure didn't understand it
It doesn't help that an important note is missing from the US version of the game either
but honestly, vague and 'open to interpretation' storytelling has never been my thing anyway

So that the people who visit my thread can have a simplistic idea of the game if they wish to forward their interest. -OP

Just beat it for the first time last night. Got the bad ending so I definitely am missing some key plot points but what I gathered was
>the town of silent hill was home to a devil worshiping cult that tried to perform some ritual to gain power
>The ritual involved sacrificing Alessa but it somehow backfired and Alessa became possessed or at least the one with the power
>Alessa uses her powers to submerge the town into a hell dimension
>Somehow your daughter has part of Alessa's soul (I’m assuming I would know more here if I got a better ending) and together they complete the god/demon the cult was trying to summon
That’s the gist I got from my first blind play through. There was mention of a drug a couple times but that plot line never got expanded on at least the route that I was playing
Overall really loved it. Clunky as hell to play but atmosphere and music really hold up and the last scene with Lisa is very haunting

Very good reply, thanks. -OP

>So that the people who visit my thread can have a simplistic idea of the game
So you are literally asking for people to SPOIL the game's mystery and huge appeal point, so they don't have to play the game?
Sorry, but that's just stupid as fuck. Play the games, blind. Try to come up with your own theories. It's not even that complex in the end of the day, just not spoonfed to you like western AAA cinematic games do these days.
If you need more data afterwards, there's days worth of literal thesis works on the SH's plot and symbolism online.

There's quite a bit of false information here.
I do recommend replaying it.

It’s my thread & I’ll ask whatever the fuck I want, don’t like it? Fucking leave, energized unproductive fuck.

Local crazy cult puts demon god on little girl and things go wild. Click here to know why

It’s a video game, not a movie.

That's not the point. Calm your horses.
I am simply stating that you are about to literally spoil a major selling point of the SH series. The subject matter could've been simply dressed up as "I played SH1, didn't quite get it. Can ya help me?" , and you'd gotten essentially the same results, with a public warning for folks who've not yet dived into this rabbit hole.

Indeed, and games can deliver much more interesting, engaging and memorable experiences and tales than films. The story and themes, and especially the way they are provided to you, bit by bit, have always been one of the big reasons why people love Silent Hill.

I am thinking of playing a silent hill game, which 1 should I go after?

2 is the best by far, and will give off a pretty good first impression of the series.

Play in release order. SH1 is an important corner stone, and IMO the best game to boot.
Here's the download links + tips copypasta, someone has to provide the SH PC Guide pic though:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
DON'T use W10's own virtual disc app! It will not work.
Don't install under C:\Program Files\ ! This will cause issues.
The "Enhanced .EXE" is also the no-CD crack!

The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate using ePSXe or PCSX-R.
Follow the SH2 widescreen fix site's instructions to the T, and you should be fine.
For 3 & 4, check the Guide.

>Protips
-Play in the release order.
-Start with Normal difficulty! Don't do hard on 1st run (espec. SH2).
-Replaying them all is recommended; tons of replay value.
-Turn down the ingame Brightness setting, for better gamma & colors!
-Don't try to kill everything that moves, especially outdoors. Leg it, or sneak!
-Turning OFF the flashlight can really help w/ stealth!

The thread clearly requests people to share info which is requested, anyone who sees this thread on the page who has any brains can figure it out that yeah based off what the OP is asking there may be spoilers you dumb piece of shit. On top of that nothing’s stoping people from spoiling it anyways they can say what they want.

*spit

I don't agree on this. SH2 really suffers of bad pacing and underwhelming challenge. It's been a show-stopper for many first timers throughout the years, and as a veteran, it's the one I dislike replaying the most, namely because of the weak start.
Meanwhile, SH1 really kickstarts the series in a memorable way, and truly gives you things to "look forward to" in the sequels as well, helping newbies to sit through the more tedious parts with anticipation of shit hitting the fan.

>There's quite a bit of false information here. I do recommend replaying it.
Yea I’m not gonna do that. I liked the game for the atmosphere and story but it wasn’t super fun to play and will be less so now that I know what’s in each area as far as the scare factor goes. If you want to tell me where I missed the mark though I’d love to hear it. Like I said I got the bad ending so I’m sure I didn’t get all the relevant info

I’m drunk, I’m just looking to argue I may just reply to that give me a sec.

UFO ending is canon prove me wrong

How does SH2 have bad pacing? And SH1 suffering from a lot more than just bad pacing, a lot more players have been turned off from the series from playing 1 then 2.

>I liked the game for the atmosphere and story but it wasn’t super fun to play
Shame. I really like the gameplay to boot, but then again I'm a huge survival-horror / adventure game fag in general, and enjoy my slow-burn games.

>as far as the scare factor goes.
The run to school and sewers still absolutely frighten me to this day, after 20 years worth of replaying the game.

>If you want to tell me where I missed the mark though I’d love to hear it
The most spoiler free hint I can give is:
Explore the South-Park area properly before moving to the docks.. That's gonna give ya less than an hour of extra content, and good ending.
For the "best" ending, you kinda needs to stitch together 1+1 with what you've learned and do a bit outlandish act much earlier, in the hospital, and then pull a crazy sounding stunt later on.

For some extra lore content, do examine all the magazine clips you find (you have to start with the cut-out magazine in the normal hospital's offices), and visit the Police station in the New Silent Hill.

is Mednafen good, already have it for splatterhouse series

>How does SH2 have bad pacing?
The beginning is an absolute slog, and nothing of real significance happens before you reach the Park. The apartment buildings really overstay their welcome.

>SH1 suffering from a lot more than just bad pacing,
Such as?
From personal perspective, which seems to have gained plenty of support throughout the years, SH1 has easily the best pacing, the biggest and most interesting town segments, the most varied main-locales, far superior scares, and better challenge, alongside with plenty of replay value.

>a lot more players have been turned off from the series from playing 1 then 2.
Source?
Because that goes against what I've witnessed. Every now and then I literally have to give a pep talk for people who jumped straight to SH2, because it's the "cool kid" of the series, only to get burned up before even meeting Maria.

It is exactly the reason why I highly recommend playing SH1 first. I know no one who'd dropped the game after the first 5 minutes into it alone, unless they were just outright terrified by it.

it's serviceable if you've managed to configure it (and you may have to re-configure it for every game, because that's how shit works in 2020), but I just stick to my ePSXe for the "just werks" sessions, or PCSX-R if I want more graphical bling bling.

For a truly fool-proof option, PSXfin gets the job done, with no enhancements at all.

No one gets it even today.
Even Twin Perfect got some details wrong
Of course, I do, and I will explain with details to anyone interested, heh
