If you were to basically rewrite Fallout 4's story, setting, and characters, what would be the result?

why would I bother
Set in Europe, Diamond city is a real castle

I think some small tweaks could go a long way towards improving this game.
For starters, remove Kellogg and synth-son, they add nothing to the game and the twist still works without them
I'm tempted to remove synths altogether but I feel like there is a way to justify their existence, just not the "disappearing" wastelanders angle, maybe just one or two for political reasons
Remove the railroad, this world draws inspiration from a futuristic 50s setting where robots are happy to be slaves so it really doesn't fit
Make the Minutemen a side quest faction that unlocks / expands building, DO NOT make them a requirement or make the player the "general"
Make the central plot about the Brotherhood's attempts to seize and utilize the Institute's tech, Minutemen can be a wildcard option where they help you and you decide what happens to the other factions
Sorry for the wall of text but there's a lot of things wrong with this game, this is just the important stuff
>the institute needs to return to the surface because their underground utopia is failing
This gives them some sort of stake in how the commonwealth turns out
>the BoS are not really interested in staying in the commonwealth and intend to leave once they blow up the institute and gather up all the tech they can find
This makes them much less benevolent and likable.
>preston stays the general of the minutemen and they grow in ranks without your help
This makes them seem much less pathetic overall and more self-sustaining
I would keep everything the same except for the folowing:
>The Institute doesn't create synths or humanoid robots, but instead focuses primarily on neural simulation so that human minds can be accurately "uploaded" to a robot. They use this technology to influence and guide the world above without subterfuge. Their main goal is to reform the population via extreme eugenics and strict population control.
>The Railroad are now rebels fighting back against the growing influence of the Institute, rather than shallow freedom fighters. They retain some of the "free thinking robots" themes as they try to reprogam some of the Institute's neurally-linked robots.
>BoS is largely unchanged. They don't really like either of the other factions, but can be persuaded to side with one provided some compromises are made.
>Diamon City now faces pressure from the Institute to allow a robotic representative to reside within the city.
that's all I got for now
>Shaun is a 10 year old when you start
>Spouse is dead when player wakes up after being frozen again
>Reveal the player is a synth if they side with the institute.
>Institute isn't fucking retarded, and is a reasonable choice.
kellogg is treated as benny 2.0 with one path even leading to making him a companion
all I can think of sitting on the shitter
take away the entire pre-war backstory
you can play as a ghoul
start of the game let's you have a choice of starting as a messenger, trader, lost synth, whatever
default difficulty has survival mode aspects
99% less trees
50% less water
MORE brown and green colors, vanilla has way too many bright rainbow colors for an apocalypse
bigger map, no reason for the small size of the vanilla map
It wouldn't be abject garbage for one
kino
You're a random Vault Dweller who randomly got unfrozen because of a system error. The main quest is about unfreezing your other lads and deciding what to do with them
>Minutemen use the vault and it's resources to build a "main settlement" to command their other towns
>Institute uses them as pure test subjects free from radiation
>BoS uses them to bolster their numbers then fucks off
>Unfreeze them on your own, then just leave them be
>Sell them to raiders as sex slaves
>enemies are still bullet sponges unless you get headshots in vats and then they turn into a joke
>no matter where you are in the world you will find ammo and chems and edible food in trash cans so you never really need supplies
>whole world is fucking ugly
You still have a bad game.
Fallout new vegas 2
You wanna know how lazy Bethesda is? They make these threads so you'll give them ideas. They're desperate.
Why do they always pick the worst ones then?
>They make these threads so you'll give them ideas. They're desperate
give proof or you're a schizo
I wouldn't put that past them. They literally would pass a hat/bowl around the fucking office and that's what made it into the game. I'm looking for the interview now but I don't remember which one talked about it.
Synths plot comes from F3 since the doctor who helps you locate your father finally goes to find the institute
You got what you deserve
do this thread again in a few weeks, i'm replaying it right now and i'm gonna put a lot more of attention to the story, rn just get rid of the long intro and the voiced MC
>the institute are replacing humans with synths so they can AstroTurf the surface into being a experiment for other tech as well as making acquiring assets or neutralizing threats and nucances easier and are more just "science for the sake of science" driven and don't really care about what people do so long as they don't get in the way
>The railroad aren't fucking retarded and want to help more than just escape synths, instead wanting to build communities focused on synths and humans working together to make a better world seeing as it's already pretty shitty
>brotherhood just want to glass the entire region because of all the tech that is running around, have no regard for locals and are extremely xenophobic just wanting to cleanse the area and reclaim all the hazardous tech, also make there base something other than a shitty airship
>Minuetmen are already pretty well established Preston is just a squad leader who has been cornered in concord and can only become leader of the minuet men after the leader dies during a quest rather than at the start of the fucking game
>make raiders more organised and prominent as a faction being able to side with them in concord battle, give ability to unite the raider gangs under you to wipe out all other factions from the region with you as a ruthless raider warboss
One of the major themes of the game is supposed to be paranoia of the Institute, but this comes lousy in the game, never amounting to more than a couple of scripted encounters where people accuse each other of being Synths. This needed to be better utilized. Running into a random stranger, caraveener, merchant should always be a tense situation where you don't know if they're going to smile at you one minute and then go homicidal the next.
Generic "raiders" need to fuck off entirely. The map should be divided into multiple territories controlled by various factions, including named raider gangs with their own gimmicks (like Nuka World tried to do).
You should have the ability to take control of areas for whichever faction you like (BoS, raider gang, Minutemen) but the larger the area you control, the more prosperous it is, the bigger a target you become for Institute infiltrators and sabotage (which is already sorta in the game, but very unthreatening and under-utilized).
Speaking of Synths, they needed to be scary. They're not. Even the biggest baddest Courser in the game is just a bullet sponge with a stealth boy. Fighting a Courser should have been like fighting the Terminator.
Anything to make the atmosphere more like the original post-nuclear rpg.
I think maybe the synth question should be more a process of temporary immortality. Come at it like Soma does and introduce an actual coin flip type scenario where its a legit reason to actually go to the institute. Make it more morally grey and offer it so that the institute as well as other factions have some positives and negatives
I've always thought the rad system should, instead of killing you, give you a small chance to turn into a ghoul. Its so disappointing that it's not something that can naturally occur in the game
not OP but I'll make a reminder
push on the fact that the Railroad is ignoring human slaves on purpose and has actually made things worse for everybody since they made the Institute angry and unleash their coursers in answer. I swear the game missed a huge opportunity on Cait where she could have insulted them for letting human slaves suffer despite it being easier to save compared to synths.
Thinking it would be KINO
