Halloween is almost here, What games are you guys playing?
I'm going through Darkwood for the first time, and so far it's pretty fucking spooky. At first I wasn't too keen about the top down perspective, but I quickly warmed to it. I also got Lost in Vivo in my backlog. I don't really know much about it other than the fact that it's heavily inspired by Silent Hill.
Picked up Dying Light a few days ago. The gameplay is extremely engaging and fun, but the story is genuinely the most abbhorent shit I have ever had to sit through in terms of a AAA release.
> Free-running is fun though :)

Just finished bloodborne, I'm thinking MM this weekend even though it's not really scary.
List >Cold Fear >Dead Space 1 >Onimusha >Alone In The Dark - A New Nightmare Maybe Forbidden Siren but with a walkthrough. How's Eternal Darkness? Planning on buying it.
Lincoln Lopez
Guys, i've never played a silent hill before but 4: the room is on gog now. Are the stories connected? Is it ok to start with 4? I heard it was rather disconnected or different from the rest, but i don't want to get spoilered for the first three if that happens.
they aren't really connected, you'll miss out on some minor details about what silent hill is and lore shit but it is fine if you want to do that one first. The only tightly connected games are 1 and 3.
Lucas Roberts
it's been a while since I played it, but iirc there are just a couple of small references to 2. nothing major though.
I think you should give it a shot, I don't see why not. It's mostly its own thing.
The premise is really interesting and creepy but the game is tedious.

I just got Darkwood and have a lot of PS1/PS2 era horror on the backlog, but was too busy this month and didn't play anything. Will v still have comfy horror threads next month bros...?
>finally get around to playing my horror backlog >now v only wants to talk about christmas-themed games
Gabriel Jenkins
I wouldn't start with 4, not because of the story, but because it's the weakest of the main 4 games and not representative of the series. There's always an autist reposting the download links for SH2/3 with the right fixes for PC so just wait til he shows up and download those instead.

Halloween sale tomorrow?
Oliver Perez
I find the State of Decay games oddly comfy.
Adam Wright
Haha I misread that as cunny horror games. Less interested now. Carry on t
Mason Nelson
>Scratches
I dropped the game where they had you look in every cabinet in the house for goddamn candles.
James Perry
You can start with 4 just fine, but as someone who just finished it for the first time this spooky season and as a long time fan of the first 3 I'd say don't. The latter half of the game is pure tedium and the story/ characters are really underdeveloped imo. That being said it's still pretty good and the atmosphere and concept alone carries the game pretty hard. Play the others before you consider 4 just for the sake of not having a sour taste for the series if you end up not liking it.

Started playing Forbidden Siren due to user's rec. and i guess it's a lot better than I remembered playing it. Also playing Doom through VR is effective spooks when you get to the dark areas.
Any other recoomendations for the spooks?
Jayden Lewis
Anyone play this? It's about the dyatlov pass incident
that's kind of appealing to me desu, through cultural osmosis i have a general knowledge of what it is about and i'm interested about it, but this is more in line with the era of games i recently finished. Also I'd rather play one more standalone thing till halloween than marathon the series right now.
Thanks for all the replies dudes, i think i'm gonna give it a shot.
How do I become less of a pussy when it comes to horror games?
Grayson Myers
it starts out really fucking terrible but i really like some of the quests and side quests as it went on. Some are really memorable imo.
James Gonzalez
Can I ask a question? If Frictional Games did this, would you play it? >For one, actually has genuine combat. It works sorta like Receiver in a way, in that you need to line up your shots manually and whatnot >Takes inspiration from Japanese urban legends >Found footage aesthetic >Soundtrack composed by Mona Mur >Focuses around loneliness as a general theme and way of inducing horror. >Our protagonist does talk, but only when he needs to, such as screaming or something. Otherwise, it’s text thoughts. He’s kinda snarky initially, but he rapidly loses his cool in this highly stressful situation. >Monsters all function differently.
Daniel Stewart
Don't listen to everyone shitting on 4, it's a fantastic game, extremely unique, experimental, and creepy and the story is underrated as fuck, best in the series alongside 2. The 2nd half of SH4 is NOWHERE NEAR as tedious as people say, everyone acts like you do the first half AGAIN like in DMC4, but the levels are strongly revamped both aesthetically and in gameplay, and they are all much shorter than the first time. Plus tons of awesome creepy shit happens in the 2nd half that I won't spoil, but the 2nd half is actually the best part of the game IMO.
Daniel Bennett
No because it sounds cool, but frictional has pumped out nothing but shit since The Dark Descent.
Camden Cruz
Go for it then. Despite it's flaws I still enjoyed it at the end of the day. Top notch atmosphere for the season and you might end up enjoying it more since you don't have a reference to compare it too.
Gavin Cruz
>jack screaming SOUL ROBBER every single time you attack >"this is halloween" is the theme for EVERY fucking battle, vocals and all it's amazing how solely these two small audio design fuckups can make an otherwise cool game unbearable
you sure? I really enjoyed the first one and have this, but I heard it was sort of lame.
Christian Gonzalez
Are you retarded? The Kino Within 1 is a masterpiece. The second one was worse in every single way
Brody Carter
I really enjoyed both but it pisses me off how much worse the gameplay in 2 is. 1 controls perfectly but in 2 Sebastian is sluggish as fuck, he always faces where you are looking unless you sprint, whereas in 1 he just runs around freely, it makes 2 feel like shit. Also I felt like 1 had PERFECT difficulty balance while 2 feels way too easy on normal, but on hard everything becomes an HP sponge that just about instant kills you with stupid lock-in grab attacks
