All the torches just ruin it. I can't believe survival still has this issue. People putting torches everywhere on every square inch is such an eye sore. I thought for sure that was just a temporary placeholder until a real spawn/spawnblock mechanic was introduced.

If you think hunger mechanics are worse than this problem you have no taste.

I make a new world, place like 100 blocks then get sad nobody will ever get to see what I build anyway so I stop playing. It's just not the same by yourself but servers are so rare around here these days.

No client mods, apparently. Just armor stands and a server-side plugin.

Glow stone does not solve the problem either. It's a design problem. The mechanics are dumb. If dark, spawn mobs. To not spawn mobs, make everything light. In survival, that means torches. Darkness should be allow to be part of the construction. There should be something like a hearth that can ward off spawning mobs for some radius or some other rules.
