There's hardly any plot at all, but you're going to get bodied by Spelunky 2 if you haven't played 1. You'll get bodied by Spelunky 2 if you've played 1 as well. You'll also probably get bodied by Spelunky 1 if you choose to play that first instead.
The game is the same on PC and PS4, but PS4 has online co-op now rather than later. Make sure you turn off auto-run in the options menu. It'll get you killed a lot.
