This is better than I fucking remembered, holy shit this game is fun. Same for NFL Blitz on the dreamcast. WTF happened to these kind of games?

Death of the B-tier. Like the film industry, the game industry today is AAA and indie, and that’s it. The middle died. It’s either high production values and mediocre gameplay (has to appeal to literally everyone) or interesting gameplay but on a limited scale. A game like SSX Tricky has good gameplay but isn’t a cinematic blockbuster or a long-tail service game, so today it is not permitted to exist.
They could still put the racers and their snowboards in lootboxes and do battlepasses and a cash shop like crash team racing
extreme sports games were too arcadey, non indie arcadey games died around like 2009. same with decent sports games, and alternative racing games.
like god, the one from your OP is a goddamn ea sports game. "why doesnt ea sports game fun untainted gamey games anymore?" because studios prefer bigger, fewer games. they prefer games for broad audiences. they prefer games that fit in with current trends. they prefer games they can milk dry, instead of like in the ps2 games where every other weekend you and your friends would play an ssx, atv quad, wave racer, or demolition derby game, for like an hour. they serve their purpose as games perfectly, but they dont have a chance of being the biggest moneymaker of the year.
the video game industry is dead. long live the fucking video game services industry.
SSX was as mainstream as it got. Heck the first SSX game was the 3rd highest selling game of the year
they were extremely viable back then, and still viable now. but the philosophy behind the game business has changed. those resources are better spent on EA's new BIG GAME.
the silly fun genre died because everything must be very serious and soulless now.
They can still turn it into a live service game with lootboxes, seasonal content and battlepasses. While we just pirate the game for all the content.
not with its gameplay they wont. ssx has the gameplay of the occasional "throw them a bone" game. which are usually remakes.
they will probably remake it one day. itll probably be tricky in particular even though 3 is better, just because of the catchy name.
>not with its gameplay they wont
I don't know what you're basing this on. SSX blew the fuck out of other racing games, and with stuff like crash racing and other games blowing up SSX would easily destroy competitors if it comes out. With its gameplay it'd be far more suitable than item spamming kart games. Right now developers are constantly releasing all sorts of racing games, all that had worse sales than SSX did when it was still releasing.
It's not like they don't try. The latest Tony Hawk remake is proof of that. But there's a need to tie it to nostalgia because ironically modern "gamers" don't like short arcadey games and want long games but then also rarely ever complete them, and then they go off and play battle royal multiplayer games hypocritically when its the same type of gameplay as arcadey stuff but it's massively multiplayer so they can enjoy shit talking other people whilst they play and spend loads of money or grind for ingame cash to buy cosmetics.
If Portal came out today I think it would get OK sales still but it wouldn't get enough for a sequel. It would mostly be carried by the Valve brand. It certainly wouldn't have exploded like it did at the time, when Xbox live arcade and the other early online digital game stores had this big hype over shorter, cheaper indie titles.
The problem with remakes is they bring back not just the good but also the bad. Crash shouldn't have brought back items. It killed the online pretty quickly. Items don't make the game more fun.
I'd kill for another 1080 game
They should release these kinds of games again with silly dance taunts and skins for Zoomers.
everything is all about muh realism now even though the gameplay is boiled down to something even more simple and shitty
Couple reasons:
Arcade games fell out of favor
They don't have a solid business model for devs/publishers to cash in on.
The industry has moved away from risky ventures for AAA games.
I WANT TO PLAY FUCKING ARCADE GAMES
FUCK REALISM
FUCK MUH CLEAN DESIGN

here's your new SSX bro
>the 2012 SSX is almost ten years old
I really thought we would get new games again after it. There were 11 years between Tricky and that one, and it seemed like the series had died and come back in that time. Now it's been almost as long since that game
Is this a project of yours?
yes but no it's way too much work
Tricky did not age well and that comes from someone who played the game to death. 3 is much better. Aside of that, snowboard games do need to make a comeback and I fucking hate that it will never happen.
I mean it looks neat, even if it was just something where you ride down the mountain. I would probably focus on just nailing the feeling of sliding downward, but I get it, that physics stuff is hard
I kinda liked how you needed to pre-charge the flips when you were getting ready to jump. Always felt really special if you could do three or four rotations off a jump since the rotation gradually slowed down. Which doesn't really make sense, but still
did you enjoy death stranding? i thought it was great to see a niche game like that on a AAA budget but probably one of the last times we'll get a game like that for a while
It doesnt have to be this way :(
I want more SSX with PS2 physics (SSX 2012 was shit)
All the cost is in the graphics, but not everything has to be the best graphics
seriously how the fuck they squeezed out all these physics and effects out of PS2
SSX on PS2 has amazing gameplay, amazing physics
They could definitely make it online and social and have cosmetic shit you can buy
>SSX 2012 was shit
I liked it, sure the characters and track designs weren't as colorful and no proper multiplayer was lame, but the actual gameplay itself was solid and the shit you could pull off in that game was fucking nuts. Also, the custom music stuff you could do on the 360 version was great.
The producer of SSX on PS2 Steven Rechtschaffner is making a new snowboarding game with some people that worked on PS2 SSX
With a company called SuperNatural Games Studios
He talks about a tiny bit in these interviews

And someone on the SSX mercury city forums has been in talks with him via email
The gameplay was the worst things, ass physics ass trick system
It wasnt snowbarding it was like being a rocket flying over the map unable to fail tricks, it felt like some dumb cheat code for the real ssx
Dont forget to play SSX3, SSX On Tour and the Original SSX
All great games
