Spend first 3 hours clearing first 3 areas and taking shortcut on the right to get back to the surface
Try to get at least enough to afford a perk reroll in case you need it, 200 for the first one. Otherwise just explore until you're low on health or you've seen most of it. Or if you're confident I guess you can just rush a few areas.
There's zero reason to wait in the first two areas. As soon as you get to third area you can go back to the first via the tunnel in top-right, and pick up and orb from the chamber there if you didn't cross the lava pond the first time you were at surface.
as someone that loved powder games as a nipper, the game is exceedingly boring and disappointing, probably one of my biggest gaming disappointments from the last few years or so
I wish I could put it into words better, but it really does just suck, it's more like a tech demo than anything, nothing but wasted potential
they should make a 3D version of this game with minecraft mechanics in it and call it minecraft 2
I'm probably doing it wrong myself.
I roll the first area till I can get 600 golds, so I can perk reroll twice.
second area I like to check around for a digging wand, there seems to be a high chance for them spawning. If I find a good one I'll either mine loads of gold or check the fungal cave.
get 200-600 gold per floor but rush to fungal caverns, all the good wands are in there and the place left of snowy caverns.

it really made me realize how retarded the heart spawning is sometimes, like when it's fully submerged in a pocket of coal/snow deep in a wall.
the game honestly needs a heart finder perk like the wand and enemy finder.
I did it yesterday too, I will use it for a while at least to help me learn where they can spawn, because they can be in really silly places.
Why is everyone always so down on homing?
The homing spell is fucking awful, but the light effect of the perk is amazing for things like bounce ball and slime ball
Bounce Ball does more damage the faster its going, and slime ball is slow as shit and accelerates away towards the enemy
I know that its a bit annoying when shit tries to shoot stuff through the floor but that's what GITTING GUD is for

grab a tome, smack enough enemies with it to get ~500 gold, grab whatever you find preferably some good flasks and you might get lucky with a wand, if you have health remaining then it doesn't hurt to look around more, especially for health upgrades but it is boring

if you have a solid machine gun and digging wand, you can head over to fungal caverns to find all sorts of juicy concoctions and wands, high risk high reward, otherwise it's a pretty mediocre zone to scavenge as things are far apart and deceptively high risk
Not that guy but he's right. There's no boss to the right of ice level, at least not with a garanteed spawn. I went from ice level to top twice yesterday and there was nothing on the way.

Oil blood is too high, glass cannon, living on the edge, and homing shots are too low, and extra knockback is pure garbage

it's a shit noob trap perk, homing is only useful on very few projectiles in the first place like death clouds

But I grabbed the orb too and nothing spawned. Since when does the orb across the lava lake spawn a boss?

oil blood grants some explosive immunity, definitely above average perk
glass cannon is only useful for complete shit wands or just having fun with explosives, but it's not a very strong perk
living on the edge is just a worse version of glass cannon

why though? no story to keep me interested and the gameplay mechanics get old after a couple runs. I mean it's really cool that you simulate each pixel but how many times can I find it cool that the entire level is on fire and I can't walk on the ground because it's covered in acid?
