Japan still has a take a chance attitude on games every now and then which results in the occasional flop and masterpiece but even the blunders can be entertaining just because of how weird they were. Western games just need to follow a strict narrative based story about fatherhood to be considered GOTY material and the gameplay is considered secondary to the experience if at all. There can still be some decent games from the West but they will usually be independent since publishers aren't about to back something that isn't a tried and true multiplayer cash in or a pandering movie-like wankoff.
