i see rain world being praised on Zig Forums from time to time however nobody outside of this hellhole seems to even know it exists. i played it for about 90 minutes and found it incredibly boring. is there something im missing or is this one of those meme games some people here pretend to like?
I see rain world being praised on Zig Forums from time to time however nobody outside of this hellhole seems to even...

Never heard of it. You probably fell for a shill
it's discount Ori/Hollow Knight
it's an extremely good game if you're an autist who likes tedious games with antagonistic game designs
You need to be autistic to enjoy it. Other games that fall under this category are
>Outer Wilds
>Factorio
>Noita
Don't touch them unless you're on the spectrum
You have to like survival games without building mechanics.
A e-celeb talked about it so the Zig Forums hivemind now pretends like they found it and its this underrated masterpiece even though its a pretentious boring Indie game like 98% of Indie games
It's a very particular type of game. I've always been a bit of a difficulty masochist, I've always loved physics driven movement, I like feeling underpowered and being forced to defeat enemies by cunning, I like survival mechanics, and I like cats. So this game was a home run for me, although I got sick of trying to beat it because it's so damn easy to get lost.
there's this low functioning autist that forces this pile of shit
As someone who refunded it after getting the same experience you did.
Yes, you're missing a lot of stuff.
The movement tutorial online lasts like 50 minutes, there is a METRIC SHIT TON of hidden movement abilities and mechanics, which are never explained because the dev is a moron.
However, I disliked the small boxy levels, and the deep movement wasn't enough to justify owning the game for me.
I just expected a bigger world, and there's no random generation, in a game that's already barebones when it comes to environments...
We've had rain world threads way before ecelebs made videos about it tho
outer wilds isn't bad but the other two you are correct
>expected a bigger world
It's pretty big as it is.
>I loved this game, it hit all the right notes for me
>never beat it tho
even a lot people who love the game dropped it 1 or 2 times before they got into it.
idk i absolutely loved it, such an interesting world, almost every room somehow manages to be memorable even though there are like 1000 of them.
Shit taste like this should be a bannable offense.
You don't need any of the special movement tricks, I beat the game at release and never figured out any of that, they're mostly just quirks of the physic engine aside from the backflip and slide
Yeah, I guess.
But when you constantly backtrack everywhere and every box is small as fuck, it just feels like a linear game with a bunch of fake paths to get you lost from the right one.
I expected a more believable environment from what people said here about flora and fauna, it was mostly cookie cutter arcade jumping puzzles, meh.
I know you don't need them, I didn't need them when I played, I just found out about them because I was looking for something, anything that would increase the fun factor.
Just too barebones of an experience, and the autistic convoluted progression system is such a misfire it's not even funny.
Consider yourself filtered. I love that game for organic adventures that arise from world simulation, zero handholding and minimal gaminess (enemies are just another animals with their needs), and for artistically gorgeous world. Things happening here just feel natural.
It's one of the best games I've ever played, I remember fondly the first few threads on Zig Forums before people had the game figured out, and people were sharing tips on where to go and how to progress.
Every new area was a mindfuck, and it's such a contemplative game too. Living in a death world like that is one of my fantasies. There'd be no point to it if I couldn't die to everything that moves.
Also it's one of those games where early enemies and areas seem trivial when you get back to them because you just got better at the game.
> it just feels like a linear game
>was mostly cookie cutter arcade jumping puzzles, meh.
Well, I got completely opposite feelings. There is no room that looks like obstacle from some game level.
If you play it like a regular metroidvania or a platformer you are doing it wrong.
It's basically a ecosystem/food chain simulator with physics and a little story slapped on top.
Just immerse yourself in the universe and don't try to progress to fast, find a safespot and explore around for a bit, returning to it every cycle, then when you are familiar with your surroundings, go to the next one.
I've got kind of a masochistic fondness for Unfortunate Development.
People who know haven't played it think or see the shit review scores and don't touch it.
I've never gotten past UD, thank god for the side route
The levels are gorgeous, yeah.
But the game-ines was pretty obvious for me, and not in a good way.
I also remember there was too many of those pipe things, I got over that shit in like 2001 with Jazz Jackrabbit 2... Not my kind of apocalyptic world.
>It's basically a ecosystem/food chain simulator with physics and a little story slapped on top.
this
Even after beating the game I'd go back and play it for a few hours just to have fun wandering from region to region, and observe the AI creatures interact with each others, and me with them. Becoming bros with scavengers and lizards, maxing out the various paths, collecting pearls for Moon, etc...
Collecting pearls is such a cool way to figure out the lore, there's no achievement or unlockable for doing it, but the satisfaction I get every time I bring her a new pearl was worth all the trouble of going through Shoreline again.
It has litterally nothing to do with either game except the fact that they are 2d, you have no idea of what you are talking about, leave the thread before it gets embarassing for you.
Which e-celeb?
Duny is that you?
pic related was my experience.
sup bro
I dont know who duny is, you got the wrong dude
>carry pearl through shoreline
>get smacked by squid
>drop pearl to bottom of sea
Guess it's time to die
posting old memes from back then
Show me more realistic level in 2d platformers then.
post slugcat with gun
>that pic
open world and backtracking don't mix well for me, not being aggressive, but that's a good illustration of why I disliked it
I could tolerate it in Dragon's Dogma, but you go fast there and/or teleport anywhere you placed a crystal.
ah fair enough, I guess your relationship with UD is fairly common among players then.
Does a gravitational beam emitter count?
Any idea or tease of what the developers plan on doing next?
Sorry but my custom fortresses/bases in Cortex Command are better and much larger.
But really there is no comparison, the game shot itself in the foot with the smallish teleport boxes for levels.
>ywn be a fat slugcat
why live
I tried it on a 4chaner suggestion.
I didn't enjoy it. It's not a fucking metroidvania, you filthy liar.
I don't have time to waste on a meme atmospheric foodchain simulator.
>is there something im missing or is this one of those meme games some people here pretend to like?
the game is probably not for you but that's ok.
eat your own shit and die you subhuman zoomer.
There's a tease
youtube.com
how am i supposed to play it? like a shooter?
>just immerse yourself bro
great, thanks
there is literally nothing tedious about the game. just use your brain and common sense and plan your progression ahead at a managable pace.
No one said it's a metroidvania
Your supposed to play it like your prey. Rain world excels in making you feel small in a large dangerous world. Things will kill you and there’s very little you can do about it. Again it’s a game for a very special kind of autist so you’ll either love it or hate it. Try avoiding enemies instead of fighting them is the best advice I can give you
That guy who fooled Zig Forums into thinking dark souls 2 is a bad game
the cryptic videos are getting boring since there's no sense of anticipation. I hope they give us something substantial soon enough.
