that was more of a misconception due to the lead starbound dev being a genius marketer
He knew that Terraria was hugely popular at the time he was working on starbound and used the fact he used to be an artist for Terraria to help Starbound get traction by being public about the fact he worked on it
the result was that when starbound was first announced a FUCKTON of people thought it was made by the terraria devs even though it was just one failed artist who was kicked off the terraria team for plagiarism
